Retired Buses

Q1-When a bus retires, what does the CTA have to go through ?

Q2-Do they just retire and leave it at the garage ?

A1- The CTA goes through a period of denial and grievance... :(:D

A2- Honestly, if they just retired the bus and left it at the Garage, there would be no room for any more buses in the garages... the CTA goes back into the 1940's and thus would have nearly 70 years of buses piled up there... <_<

I don't know what you consider process, but depending on the age of the vehicle, it may need to be retained until its "useful life" time has expired (like 12 years) to satisfy Federal Grant rules. Some after being retired, if they are in good shape may be held onto to become work buses. Others find their way to other civic departments, such as the police or fire department. Once retired, they are gutted and then find their way to the scrap yard (see posts and good pics regarding the end of the 4400 series TMCs and 5300 Flxibles).

Basically run this search, which shows the various references to the scrapyard at 92nd and Ewing.

Also, rumor has it that Carole Brown lobbied Springfield to have their pensions revoked.;)

Also, no place to store the undead NABIs.

Can CTA restore the NABIs back in service when they're fixed.

Do you mean can in the sense of able, or in the sense of do they want to?

Also, you are assuming a fact not in evidence that they will be fixed. Although NABI said so in its press release, there doesn't seem to be any indication that it is doing so. Does anyone at 77th or 103rd have any evidence that NABI repair people have shown?

In the absence of the above, any answer would be pure speculation. However, many of us previously speculated about that starting around this post.

Does anyone have an interest in hearing that old MAN Americana diesel. I was looking through YouTube and found an awesome ride along on an Australian MAN, it sounds exactly like the CTA Americanas. This video brings back some great memories for me. During my time at CTA I spent more time on the Americana bus than any other bus in the CTA fleet at that time. Here is the title "884 MAN SL202 CNG" Its sounds so awesome!.

Reminds me of when I used to drive Evanston Routes 201, 202, 203, 204.

I am convinced these photos don't exist. I have spent over an hour looking for them with no luck...can somebody just post a link, please?

Just look at the pics I posted in the "retired TMC buses" post. Theres some pics of TMC buses for ex. at the scrapyards.

I am conviced these photos do exist because I posted them myself! Possibly they may be in another post, but they are in a "TMC RTS" bus posting.
