#1205: I wonder who lost their job(s) scrapping a bus without authorization?

#1257: Why would Chicago want to chauffer dignitaries around in a bus that now is 42 years old? True it's rebuilt, but even rebuilt 42-year old buses are tired out from all the milliions of miles on them, especially the frame, which is probably still the only original component from 1972 left on this bus. The Detroit Diesel 6V71 would be rebuilt as would the tranny, but it's a waste of taxpayer money in my opinion... how often do we chauffer dignitaries in a bus, when they'd rather use a limo service? It would be nice if someone can get a pic of this bus, because I'd like to see the condition it's in now. Is it nicely painted in the two-tone green scheme, the current white, blue and red scheme, or just maybe plain white/something other?

The only time it was reported was the IOC, and they used the hybrid buses, one of which broke down. So, I agree with you that I don't see risking that with a 5307.

1257 has not been seen out in many years, but it does still exist. The story with 1205 is rather murky. At the time it was cut up (or more likely dragged away by Pielet Bros) was that CTA had ended up getting the old 1205 (a TD4506) back from the high school that had been using it for over 10 years. When it finally died, the school did not know what to do with it, so one weekend it "reappeared" at South Shops. Eventually CTA decided to sell it to Pielet as part of the regular scrap contract. Well, the 4506 did not actually have a number on it, while the remains of 1205 the 5307 which was sitting nearby did. So when the tow truck driver came to collect a "1205", he took the one that was obviously 1205, and the scrap dock guy concurred. Unfortunately, this was NOT what was supposed to happen! Eventually somebody noticed the 4506 was still there and the 5307 wasn't. So Pielet's was again called to remove a 1205, this time making sure it was the 4506, and a ex-post-facto AFR was issued for the 5307.
