sw4400
I would welcome input on something unusual I saw this afternoon..... I boarded a bus this afternoon and couldn't help but notice the driver's metal badge number on his arm...... it said LXXXXX(X's indicate numbers that I purposely blocked out in respect of privacy). But what does the "L" stand for in the badge number? All the metal and cloth badge numbers I've seen are all numbers, no letters.

I thought about that, but I've see cloth and metal badges for that before.... 123456 Line Instructor That's how the badges look that I've seen for them. Unless he's a longtime Line Instructor from the 1970's or earlier and that's how the badges looked back then. Otherwise LXXXXX has some other meaning. andrethebusman
L badges are loaners when somebody has lost his real badge.
