Kevin
The US Olympic Committee was in town today to review the city's bid for the 2016 Olympics. And what better way to transport them to Soldier Field for the presentation? A CTA DE40LF, of course! CBS2 Video
Busjack
And to deceive them (pull something representative of 0.3% of the fleet to give them a ride). This might have been somewhat in a reaction to LA demonstrating that its light rail works. I wonder if the tour will go on the South Side Green Line to 51st. sw4400
I wonder if the tour will go on the South Side Green Line to 51st. If they did, Busjack, they would travel amazingly on a Brown Line 3300 or 3400 series of "L" Trains that is "temporarily" assigned to the Green Line. Only the best for our guests... :P

Swami Murph predicts that they get a "charter" bus ride essentially using the #2 route, and do not see the "Grand Boulevard/Washington Park" neighborhood. Update: I was somewhat right that a couple of hybrid buses (maybe most of them) were used on the tour. Looked like 805 and 806 on WGN, but 800 on WLS. Of somewhat related interest the ABC7 web story includes the statement, not in the video, that the buses went down MLK Drive, so they didn't completely miss the neighborhood. However, the ABC7 blog says that one of the hybrid buses momentarily stopped running.
sw4400
However, the ABC7 blog says that one of the hybrid buses momentarily stopped running. WOW!!!! These buses are supposed to be "the wave of the future" and already they're breaking down??? In a "mechanically related" topic only, I have a friend who has a 2004.5 Kia Spectra(about 3 yrs old now). It starts up on the first try and stays running until the driver turns it off. This is how the new buses(especially the New Flyers(2006-Present) and Optimas(2006-Present) ) should be working for the first couple of years of service. Kia Spectra vs. New Flyer DE40LF: Kia seems to win the "running engine" competition easily. That's a shame for the CTA!!! Anyone else know of a car or bus manufacturer that can "run circles" around these buses?
Busjack
Anyone else know of a car or bus manufacturer that can "run circles" around these buses?Honda. Even more irrelevant, there is a programmable sign on the Dan Ryan north of 95th that says "159th Street 21 Minutes via Ford." (GCM site for those of you who haven't seen it.) How long does it take with a Honda or Kia? B)

New Flyer
Starting with the purchase of the NOva busses, if they sit for more than 10 minutes the busses automaticaly shut down and have to be restarted. Kedzie was to have all 10 of the 800s but a couple of alderman complained and we lost 4. @ to Chicago, and 2 to Archer.

Since the south side has ineffective alderwomen like Troutman and Coleman, it doesn't get any new buses?
