jajuan
This past weekend, I observed 6019, 6074 and 6080 operating on the 63 63rd. And just yesterday I think I saw 6021 operating as either a 9 or X9 on Ashland. Now I'm pretty sure that I had seen these buses still running on 103rd routes as late as last month. Has 103rd started transferring it's 6000s, including the ones it got from Kedzie last summer, to 74th to make room for the New Flyers it's been receiving in recent months? Has it gotten enough Flyers already to do this along with the retirement of its 5300s that's been going on since its Flyers started arriving? BusHunter
#6015 - #6021 have been at 74th garage since the week of May 24th. As for #6074 - #6077 I observed these myself on the either the #X9 or #9 route around December 18th (they could've been there before then). Jajuan say's he saw #6080. I didn't realize that the transfer from 103rd went that high. Good info Jajuan!! As for 103rd's TMC's, they have been losing buses almost daily to other garages. This has been going on for a while resulting in a fleet that has went from around 120 TMC's to just about half that. Some of the newer transfers that I know of are: #4613, #4618, #4656, #4660, #4832, #4741 (according to a member of this forum), all to 77th. #4622, #4626 and #4628 and possibly #4629 to Kedzie. Older transfers include alot of high #4600's and a few #4700's to 77th. Probably the transfers were made to help Kedzie and 77th retire some of their TMC's. I wonder why Forest Glen keeps loaning buses to 77th? I saw #6764 on the #3 yesterday. In the past I've seen #6767 for about a week at 77th and have also seen #6779. Strangely enough reappearing at the Glen.
Busjack
Slightly off, some of the lower 6000s have, in fact, been shuffled a lot. After the Novas appeared at 77th (approximately mid 2001), I saw some low 6000s at Midway station on 74th routes, then they went to Kedzie, then to Forest Glen, then back to Kedzie. Apparently, from these later reports, some of those have recently gone between Kedzie, 103rd and 74th, although probably not all the same buses. Living on the west side, I don't get to observe 103rd's buses as much as I might 74th. Plus everytime I saw 74th's buses, mostly on #8, #9, and #X9, it would be either TMCs or the higher numbered 6000s that were already there. As for Forest Glen Novas, I did seen #6747 at 69th Red Line working #71-71st/South Shore this morning, which buses did replace the Novas at Forest Glen, 6000s from 103rd? Did they retire any 6000s yet, because I've seen few of them at 77th Scrap yard.

Im sure because of storage issues, some CTA buses sitting in the scrap yard at 77th are not neccisarily there being scrapped. Some buses are placed there because there are no other places to store them. I have video that I shot of inside the scrap yard and there were many Flxible buses from Kedzie that later reappeared at Kedzie. So not all buses in th e scrap yard area are being scrapped Im sure its a lack of storage issue.

There must be a bus shortage at 77th because they have been transferred alot of 103rd TMC's. Being that they still have the same mechanical problems (these are old buses) Forest Glen offers newer equipment that's less likely to break down. Also the Glen has a surplus of buses because of three track. #6747 - #6759 and #6022 - #6031 are still at the Glen even though they have nothing to do with three track anymore. I know that the glen has lost a few buses to 103rd (#6107 - #6098) but there is still that 10 plus surplus. As far as the #6000's are concerned none have been retired.(except #6003 and #6313) The Forest Glen buses that you see are probably waiting for their mid -life rehab (they still have at least 31 buses left to rehab, the most of any #6000 garage not counting the Cummins buses #6329 - #6305)
