qwantae
I was watching the CLTV News today, and They were showning #547_ couldnt see the 4th number on the bus, but It was involving an accident with the police cruiser van that hit the bus. I couldnt remember the streets, has anyone knew anything about this? I'll be back for more information.

My immediate reaction when hearing it was a 1000. However, since you say it was a Flx, that is one of the few times that a bus intended for the scrap heap instead of a new one was involved in an accident. Buslover88
I think I saw the number, it looked to me like "5473". I guess this means the end of #5473. I'll miss it because 7/6/07 was the last time I rode it and it was a good ride.

All I mean is if it is #5473 then i'll miss it. Is there a crime now in missing a bus?
jajuan
Speaking of 5300s and their retirement, all those left at Kedzie will finally be retired and scrapped by the time of the spring pick changes at Kedzie go into effect. They were good buses but they are well passed their time. Whenever I have to ride one of them or I hate to admit it a TMC, I have to worry if I'll make it to my destination without worrying about a breakdown. I had a few issues a few months ago with older buses at Kedzie breaking down, mostly the engines cutting out while the bus was on the road or the buses getting stuck in neutral and refusing to switch back into drive at relief points. That brings up the question of what Kedzie will get to replace them since they'll be retired and not traded. With the second phase of three track and the pickup of 8, 125, 143, 145, and 148 in place of 21, 50 and 60 going to Archer among other changes, Kedzie will still need buses to replace them, if not some extras along with the number needed to replace the current number of 5300s so that these highly used new route assignments can be properly covered. Busjack
rmadison said at least some NABI articulateds. That seems to confirm what renardo thought. With rmadison's prior post that the TMCs would probably be out of North Park, and that post saying that NP has 345 buses and is supposed to get under 300, you can make other assumptions. Of course, rmadison could probably elaborate himself. There is also the question where Option 3 is supposed to go when it starts.
trainman8119
There is also the question where Option 3 is supposed to go when it starts. Given the CTA's history of quality planning, probably Archer. More seriously, though, where is the oldest stuff going to end up when this is all over? Busjack
This also shows how the fleet will be reduced. 20 [by evening up the am and pm peaks], 21 according to the maintenance plan (page 15), and three track will be done sometime in 2009. Instead of having 185 buses or so for which there is not a replacement plan (assuming 200 will be replaced by the hybrid articulateds, not knowing a big a leap that is), maybe that goes down to 125.The new President's Report amplifies on the 3 track issue. Page 8 indicates that 3 track will be done June 2009, and page 11 indicates that there are 60 buses added for 3 track. Throwing in the 41 mentioned above, that's about 101 buses, leaving only about 85 of 1995 vintage that need to be replaced as of July, 2009, assuming the other assumptions. So, if I were betting on trainman's proposition--85 left at 74th.
