CTA Bus Depot-By-Depot Bus Roster

A lot still get parked outside in front of the garage and in the employee lot on the south end of the garage. The 6000s seem to still be holding steady at about 53 or 54, whichever was the last count. To me they seem to have been spread thin nof lateperhaps from being used on a few more routes than before. In regards to 4176, yes it is here. It was in service today on a downtown route earlier today during PM rush, though I'm not sure which one because at the time I saw it, it was deadheading southbound on the Drive into downtown when I was riding the 136.

I saw 4176 on the 147 earlier this evening.

One other correction. Route 127 hasn't existed for over a year. One thing I find interesting is that according to this list Kedzie now operates more buses than NP with Kedzie at 287 buses to NP's 260. In fact this list shows Kedzie with the most buses assigned at this point. I remember when the TMCs and 5300s were here when we speaking of NP having upwards of 440 buses.

This is really interesting considering there are NO owl routes at this garage. The 8 is as close to one as you can get, but that is only a handful of buses. I've seen buses parked in front of Kedzie garage in the middle of the day, so where are all of these buses parked at night? I know there is a vacant lot directly behind the garage. Is CTA "squatting" that lot? Are they parked on the street?

Being in no position to comment on particular fleet numbers, but it does seem like K is up (especially with regard to 6000s), and P is down, despite having received the most recent 4000s.

If K has 280 some buses, among them about 50 artics (which spacewise count as 75; resulting in a space requirement of 305, and more to come), and a capacity of 250, something is off, unless buses are roaming the streets zombielike at night, because they can't go home.:lol:

As BusHunter indicates, that may result in 6000s now rapidly getting crushed, either directly from K or moving more 1000s to FG. However, it doesn't seem like there is the garage space to maintain the status quo much longer.

This is exactly why I didn't think that lowering North Park and 77th's fleet totals and raising Kedzie's was a good idea. Since North Park and 77th have a much higher capacity than the other garages, they should have more routes and buses.

How about we move these topics over to the More Bus Moves forum as this should be strictly for updates to the roster recommended by users.

On another note, we are up to 4178 in service with DE60LF's at North Park. Saw it on the 146.

Oh I don't know if this evening out of the routes was such a bad idea. Kedzie seems to be doing ok with handling the 143, 145 and 148 and 103rd seems to be doing alright with 29. I remember in 29's 77th days when it was a hassle trying to ride the 29 because of crazy wait times. I haven't really encountered that riding it now with it being a 103rd. There have been a few times when I now rush to catch because it came faster than I expected. Though I don't deny space issues at Kedzie and the other garages.

With NP getting all of the newbies (I saw 4166 on the 146) and K getting the lower numbered 4000s, I guess 77th and 103rd are out of the mix in getting any more 4000s. I actually feel bad for the riders who get crushed on the #6. Maybe they will switch to Metra Electric for more breathing room.

Well, as for getting new artics, I personally think so. But I smell a shuffle once this delivery is complete. Hoping that it will (at the very least) benefit 1 and 7.
