Busjack
I think those Pace Carpenters operated Westmont years ago. I was going to ask if anyone had an idea about the time frame. Bill V. has acquired from CTA in 1986 and used mostly in McHenry and North Division. Any idea how long they lasted or other assignments? sw4400
Sent by Mel Bernero. I hope these come through... When were these used? I don't ever remember hearing the CTA having these buses. Here's the ones I do know of... 1969 CTA ordered Flxibles for Lake Street Routes 1972-1977 CTA ordered GM Fishbowls for general distribution 1979 CTA Ordered M.A.N Artics for mainly downtown routes 1983 CTA Ordered more M.A.N Artics to add to their original fleet 1983 CTA Ordered Flyer D901A's for general distribution 1985 CTA Ordered M.A.N Americanas for general distribution That was it for buses outside of the current white, blue and red scheme started by the now retired 1989-1990 TMC RTS buses. So where did these come into service?

So where did these come into service? If I'm not mistaken they were CTA paratransits used in the '80s. I remember seeing them as a kid transporting a few seniors or people confined to wheelchairs whenever I saw them with passengers aboard. You don't remember them because they weren't regular fixed route buses. CTA bought them strictly for paratransit (CTA used the term 'special services' at the time) use. twyztdmynd
Recalling an inncodent from a retired Pace employee, the Carpenters were very poor busses. Plagued with braking problems. He worked for Mchenry/Prairie State Coaches subcontracted for Pace. He told me after a stop the brake interlock malfunctioned causing the bus to have no brakes causing the bus to lose control ending up going off-road into a forest preserve.
