pudgym29
Well theoretically, one wouldn't even have to wait for a pull in at Jeff Park as the #85 terminates at Forest Glen anyway. Actually, no. Route #85 Central buses run through the Jefferson Park transit center to|from Elston & Bryn Mawr {aka Forest Glen garage}. The route still makes pick ups & drop offs at Jeff Park, but the route's north end of the line is still Elston/Bryn Mawr. A driver who got relieved at Belmont/Kimball Blue Line could still theoretically get on a Blue Line train, get off at Jeff Park, get on a northboud 85 and end up at the garage. Guest
The issue was the amount of time it took for drivers who have to wait for a #85 to pullout from FG ride to the Blue Line then have to wait for a southbound train to Belmont and vice versa. I remember having to wait at FG for a Central bus to arrive which was occasionally late. Then have to wait for the train to Belmont. I started arriving early and I would still arrive at Belmont with two minutes to spare before my relief. One thing drivers off duty would hope for at Kimball was catching a pullin to FG. artthouwill
I know that ! I'm just saying, what if Archer Garage closes, the Western buses (49/X49) could be assigned to 77th Garage, and drivers can relief at 79th/Western Terminal like the 49A drivers. Though that would not be my first choice for where the 49 goes after Archer closes (X49 will be eliminated), 77th is a very real possibility. I saw 4063 going SB on Western at the Ike yesterday. It was Not In Service, but I wondered if it was a training bus for 77th, since it has no routes in that area. But I guess we won't know much more before Jan 8 (30 days before the cuts and Archer closing takes effect). I don't work for CTA, but my guess is that the union contract stipulates a 30 day notification of layoffs. I talked to one Archer operator who doesn't even know if he's being laid off or not. artthouwill
Possible. One would have to weigh the ease in making street relief against the deadhead in choosing between 74th and 77th. In that one could suppose that Western buses would stay out all day, the relief would favor 77th. In fact there is historical precedent, in that Lind indicates that when the 69th barn was converted to bus, Western streetcars used 69th Street to get to the 77th carhouse. Of course, no one knows what goes on in the heads of CTA staff. And, again, there won't be any X49 bus if the planned budget is implemented, as well as there will be room freed up at 77th if X3 and X4 bite it. At one time, the 49 Western was divvied up between 69th and NP.

With all these transfers going on, I'm surprised Archer isn't gaining any #6000's. With the possibility of them closing in Feb. it would probably be the place the #6000's would go to at least in the short term and you could avoid a mass shuffle in Feb. Maybe someone is listening, #6043 is on the #X49 right now.
