Kevin
For those wondering, the new seats referenced in today's Tribune article are the el-cheapo plastic seats that were in prototype #1000. I wonder how long these will hold up in daily use. (Photo)
ryanbytes
I look at them and it brings back the memories of pulling those things around and a driver testing the seat out getting scared when another pulled the seat back pretty damn far. They are just so flimsy. The only benefit if you can call it that is the flex does make for a better ride! :P
Busjack
At least the Tribune gave the explanation why there were 2 types of seats on that bus.
CTA 9537
Those seats are really flimsy they are going to be a disaster in regular service the kids will probably have fun breaking the seat backs off of them. So get reaby to stand a lot more on CTA buses this year
geneking7320
When I read the article I thought back to 1996 when I visited San Diego. I noted San Diego Transit buses had full width padded seats. There were also signs on the buses saying that undercover police were watching for vandals. I mention this because the "bucket" type seat has difficulty holding the expanding American behind.
Busjack
Pace's 6162s and 6600s have the full padded seats. Their press release on the ElDorados impled the same ("fully cushioned seats"), but today's news reports indicate otherwise.
trainman8119
Cheers to the service boards for attempting to do something to benefit rider "comfort", although their means for doing so, as usual, fall short. And what really gets me is that the officials are so proud of that junk !!!! Shows they don't ride very often. I'd still take more narrow over wider if they just put more of em on the bus !!!!!!!
