MetroShadow
Old School pace, before the yellow and white era buses. Those were more or less integrated and changed after the RTA merge of 1984. (someone can add or correct as neccessary).
Busjack
Your cause and effect appear backwards. RTA purchased those buses in 1976. I saw that type in Oak Park (replaced the albino CTAs, which replaced whatever junk West Towns had; West Towns would have used it as a contract operator, or the RTA would have provided it to the City of Elgin; the RTA didn't directly run any service in those days). After the RTA was reorganized and Pace was formed in 1983, Pace slapped their logo on the side. (In effect, Metra still uses the RTA colors.) For those who need roster links: Chicago Transit and Railfan; The Bus Rosters page. The Grummon-Flxibles paid homage to the scheme in that the beltrail stripes were originally orange, slate and brown. The real question is why Pace dropped the RTA scheme in 1986 (when they received the 8600 series)? A strange side note: This color scheme was the result of a contest. The RTA commissioner from Evanston said that he didn't want to see any of those green buses in his town. However, CTA already was the provider in Evanston. Busjack
Based on the license plates, it is probably at the Chicago Historic Bus Museum. One of the organizers was from Pace River, which may explain the Elgin destination sign.
