43 43rd Bus Reroute!

I take the 43rd bus everyday to go to school, and I always wondered why the bus route doesn't go down 43rd st from Princeton Ave to Halsted St. The bus, instead, goes down Root St. The 44 Wallace-Racine bus goes down Root Street as well from Wallace to Halsted. I propose that the 43 43rd bus route go straight down 43rd st from Halsted to Lake Park( including going to the 47th Red Line Station via Wentworth, 47th, LaSalle). Past Princeton, it will continue to Halsted st and make a right on Halsted to 42nd st.*Last Stop*. Then it will make a right on Emerald ave back to 43rd st.You can look at the link to Google Maps to see where I think the bus stops should be. The white dots past Princeton Ave are my proposed bus stops. Any thoughts?

While it is historic, what evidence do you have that there are unserved passengers?

And why don't any of you contact the CTA Planning department? It doesn't read here.

Well, when I get on the Bus at Princeton ave going towards Lake Park, the bus is always Empty. So I thought why have a bus go through an empty area where it can go through an area with many houses so people wouldn't have to drive to the train stations, or walk. And I have contacted CTA's Planning department about it, and I got no response.

I was going to add the question about rival gang territories, but anyway, all you have indicated that one rider would be accommodated.

The only real question is that since it no longer serves the Stock Yards Industrial Park, whether it really has any function west of Wentworth/Wells.

Once the bus gets to 43rd st and Princeton ave going east, that is when the bus starts to fill up. But that's because of the Senior Citizens from the Senior Citizens Home. So it only has function up until it hits the train tracks near 43rd st and Shields?

At least now you are now beginning to discuss what the Community Guidelines properly state about bus reroute suggestions. Since we don't have direct numbers, the only thing we can discuss are passenger traffic generators (the two Walmarts being obvious ones, for instance). The Senior Housing is an obvious traffic generator. However, is there any other obvious traffic generator being served or would be served, or is CTA just looking at this as a way to get to the turnaround (doesn't look like there even is one) or connect with the #8 bus?

There are industrial employers along Root between the expressway and the RR tracks, and there is an unemployment office on Root just west of Wallace. I think those are the two primary reasons for this routing, not counting the fact that Root, which becomes Exchange west of Halsted, lead s directly into the Stockyards that this route once served.

How else can you connect riders going from Red to service along 43 Street without making a second transfer or going to Green?

And clearly this shows my ignorance of wal-marts in the city: How soon was that wal-mart on 47th begin?

I think you woke up confused this morning.

The only issue is whether there is ridership west of the Red Line. Joerailfan at least came up with the senior housing as a traffic generator. I was only making the point that you need a traffic generator, like a Walmart, to justify changing service.

Of course, there was talk about more near about every exit on the Dan Ryan, but that is irrelevant in this context.
