busfan2847 Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Yesterday I saw Nippon-Sharyo car with advertisements on the side it was numbered 6194. I thought these cars were 6001-6192? Quote

twyztdmynd Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 At 2014 trainday... I spotted a car with, what I assume, mounts/holders for a future advertisement... Was sitting on the BN side - track 4 - at Union Station. Quote
busfan2847 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Report Posted May 22, 2014 6001-6194. 6001-6183 are on Union Pacific and Milwaukee District Lines and 6184-6194 are on BNSF Line. Thanks. Everything I have looked at say there are 192 of them! 6194 with a filled advertizing frame is on UP-W Quote

I remembered riding 6194 about 3 years ago coming from Aurora. It's interesting how it moved to Union Pacific. Other than that, you're very welcome. Quote
busfan2847 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Report Posted September 30, 2015 Rode on 6194 this week on UP-NW. The builders plate is 2008, also checked 6191 which is 2005. Looks like 6193 and 6194 were built later than the other 192. 1 Quote
andrethebusman Posted October 15, 2015 Report Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) Here is an interesting problem. Metra in 2013 APTA fleet book shows following:2002 1 cab (8501), 1 trailer (6001)2003 27 cabs (8502-8528). 59 trailers (6002-6060)2004 48 cabs (8529-8576), 72 trailers (6061-6132)2005 32 cabs (8577-8608), 60 trailers (6133-6192)Nothing later, and this is a 2013 list. Obviously 6193 and 6194 exist. But what are they? I have a suspicion they are rebuilds of wreck victims that got renumbered. Edited October 15, 2015 by andrethebusman Quote

andrethebusman Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Here is the Metra June 2015 fleet inventory book, acquired via FOIA. 6193-6194 appear to be "penalty cars" that Nippon-Sharyo had to build to cover late penalties. This is becoming a rather common practice - instead of money changing hands, an extra car or two gets produced. Happened with Northstar commuter rail in Minneapolis - Bombardier built an extra coach.
