strictures
Wonder if pace will ever test electric buses Doubtful, I think as most routes are far too long. CTA is using its two electrics only on relatively short downtown feeders from the train stations to Michigan Ave.

MetroShadow
Might be good for shuttle bugs? Not in the foreseeable future (especially since CNG is the primary focus).
Busjack
Might be good for shuttle bugs? Metro Shadow gave you the picture. And not for shuttle bugs, because they either sit in a cage with no utilities unsupervised, or have to be driven between Lake Cook and NS Garage in Evantson 4 times a day from the October to April picks (twice a week otherwise) and have to keep up with traffic on the Edens. Anyway, there isn't a dedicated fleet for that. It should also be an indication that Pace apparently had no use for the 10 hybrid paratransits and little use for the 2 hybrid buses. Nobody is offering Pace $1 million grants per electric bus. In fact, what makes you post a totally fantasy topic?

Busjack
Just a thought if cta tries it wondered about pace If you go to the CTA Green Grants page, CTA asked for $6.3 million in ARRA/TIGGER grants for 5 buses, got $2.2 million for 2. Pace wasn't asking,* and there isn't any indication that those types of grants are still available. On the other hand, the CNG buses pay for themselves rather quickly, given that they are $480,000 each (more than an Axess diesel bus at about $410K, but less than a CTA Nova Bus at $488K), given the supposed differential between natural gas and diesel prices, and that even though gasoline is down, diesel fuel is not. ______ *Probably more correct to say that IDOT wasn't asking, as all Pace ARRA grants (for 2767-2825, the 10 hyrbrid paratransits, and 190 white pratransits) were through IDOT.
