I think we should worry more about the Ashland branch of the Green Line not falling onto the Dan. I don't even want to imagine...

It looks pretty sound, and if the CTA really worried about that viaduct, they could squish all of the revenue cars into Harlem Yard.

Or use the 61st one.

However, I never could figure out why they put the existing structure on a viaduct instead of just building a high viaduct.

With the exception of 2 trains (8 cars total) at Cottage Grove and 4 trains at Shland/63rd (16 cars), all of the revenue cars ARE squished into Harlem Yard.

If there were anything to worry about, it would be a CN train with something too tall on it that would strike tthe Green Line track bridge say during the overnight hours. Think of all of the cars stuck west of Cicero. Think of sic cars running service between 63rd and Pulaski. Perhaps if you borrow Pink Line sparesl that goes to eight.

You could just have a CN train derail and scatter its cars over the CTA tracks on the CN right of way west of Central, or just cause a haz mat alert.

​Though considering how the 2200s there got tagged, it might not be the best option. The yard doesn't seem to be powered up all the time, and doing so may require taking power off of the revenue tracks, unless the CTA wants to add a fix to that.

I'm also stumped on the structure on viaduct method but I'm guessing history had something to do with it.

Or worse a Metra derailment between Central and Harlem

​I can't see that happening, unless someone tampers with the tracks or a bridge on that section collapses. Both seem to be in good shape. You never know though.
