From what I have been told the three 2100s that are at north won't see 2007.They will be replaced by 6600s from fox.
The first few 6600s showed up at North, which is Waukegan. (The three 2100s are at North Shore). I saw 6600 and 6603 on the new routes 581 and 582 in Buffalo Grove. (Sorry, the picture of 6603 is a bit sunblown).

BTW, the North Division safety supervisor was there and stopped me, but was very nice. I told him I was taking the pictures for chicagobus.org, and noted that these buses came from Aurora. He said they were very nice buses. He asked, "do you go around the divisions and see what is where," and I essentially said yes. We talked a bit about the various forums here, including the debates on when Niles would get its blue buses and what CTA garages will get New Flyers.

The nabis are good buses lol. How much did he get pay off to say that.
Well, Waukegan has had 2400s just as long as South has. I doubt it is a case of not knowing better.

P.S. On the way from South Holland, I did see 6660 with the wrap on 364.

Last night I saw 6609 in Arlington Heights on Northwest Highway.  It was on the 696 route but no destination or route no. and running ~10 minutes late.

696 seems to have the most interesting flow of buses. From 2070s, to 2080s, to 2200s, to now 6600s. Also, a fairly new bus, compared to what contractors usually get. Good observations.

Update: Any replacement of 2200s is not complete yet, as I saw a couple at NW Transp. Center on 11/22.

Given the intervening observations, my betting is now on them being replaced by Highland Park's. They could use route 213 to interchange the 6600s (but that would be too easy).

Since more numbers are now turning up, I wonder how many 2000s were really taken out of commission in 2003? There were 84 2000 series 35 footers, and 84 6600s were received. RIPTA has pictures of some of 2000s in the scrapyard, but all sorts of others keep turning up, now primarily coming off contractor routes.

I believe most of the ones that were taken out were the from the company owned garages (Fox Valley, Joliet, Elgin). Some of the best were sent to Vancom (for example 2000 was seen a few times on the 711 route at Stratford) and other contract carriers. I am sure you know that like the 2060's and 2070's were generally contract buses as some of the 2050's after their Heritage days. 2040 was another bus that seemed to have 9 lives and was seen quite a bit after it left Elgin. But now it is time for all good things to come to an end, I guess. The buses do look very tired.

Pace hadn't announced that the other divisions would be getting 2600s (although Joliet and Elgin have a few 2500s probably due to be replaced). They did announce that Highland Park was getting 2600s, so their 6600s are moving, but haven't yet.

Since we can guess that we have accounted for 6600-6612, the question is where 6614-6623 (and anything transferred to Fox Valley when 714, 906, and maybe 921 went to bus) are going (I saw 6614 in Aurora a couple of weeks ago running among the blue buses). We also know that the remaining 2000s and 2200 Ikarus are scattered around North Shore, Laidlaw in DuPage, and the unretired 2200s in West. Nobody (except perhaps Melinda Metzger or someone in South Holland) has any idea how many full sized ones Laidlaw has, and whether they should be replaced with 2600s or shifted 6600s. Similarly, the 2500s are scattered around H, NS, R, and W (maybe a couple at NW) and Laidlaw, and are going to be replaced, presumably with 2600s.

With the sightings, one can assume that if Academy/Colonial hasn't had the last of its 2000s and 2200s replaced yet, that will happen very soon. They are running 1993 Orions on the rest of their routes (i.e. 326, 600, 606, 616), which we are told are being rehabbed, rather than replaced.

I really doubt that contractors were assigned 84 buses needed to move all of the 6600s to them, as you seem to assume.

If I were placing bets, I would think that North Shore will get some of the 6600s to replace 2122, 2125, and 2128, and also to send the 10 6200s to West to replace some Ikarus. North Shore has very little use for a 40-foot bus, except perhaps on 213, school runs and one shuttle bug, and has about 10 2300s and 8 2390s. We'll probably know by the end of January.

I don't know much about PACE, so don't attack me......

I rode a 6600 on route 215. If north shore has some why would they need more?

They only have 5, 6624-6628, and those were second-hand. The reasons they would need more were stated earlier:

  • To replace 2100s
  • My surmise that its 10 6200s would be needed at West to replace Ikarus 2200s

And as this confirms, apparently they don't need 40 foot buses to run 215.

There just put alot of money in 10 Ikarus in the last year i know that. There have have new motors in them and some body work.I have been told by a west drive someone told him there going to get the south 2400s.So we are just going to have to play day buy day becasue i dont think pace knows what there going to do to.Btw there is alot of 2600s that havent went to fox Valley yet.

Can you still find these buses in Lisle? and what routes are they on? I really want to ride one.
As I mentioned 2028 and 2052 are still in Lisle. However, they are just on BNSF feeder routes. You would have to be there when the train stops and it would drop you off somewhere in Lisle, but then you would need a way back. See, for instance, Route 820.

Having ridden both 2000s and 2300s in the past from Northwest, there isn't any difference.

Where does Nova Classic Runs at from North Shore?, I barely seen them on the road, they are my favorites
