No, as I don't ride 103rd street garage buses. Pace2322, not all NABIS suck. Okay, most of them do, but not ALL, but again, i'm going to say this: be happy we have PACE and CTA for now.

The 103rd Nabis are well taken care of. They have a few that have problems such as line rubbing through in places they never should under the bus. The 77th Street Nabis 103rd got (the 7700's) were in neglected shape. They actuall sent 103rd on of their buses that was a constant breakdown and didnt spend much time on the street when it was at 77th. They do have a harsh ride and bounce a lot. There is not much "travel" in the suspension. The thing that scares me riding them is the way the floor in the middle "turntable" bounces up when the bus hits a decent size bump. The old Artics and Seatlle buses were not allowed on the street when that happened. The bus was sent to the shops for repairs. The Nabi's...... its noraml for that to happen.

Now there's a good opinion.
However, 7702, I don't see you supporting your opinion, "The Nabi [sic] Articulated buses that the CTA has are great buses," despite the overwhelming anecdotal evidence to the contrary in this thread and elsewhere and contrary pronouncement by CTA in the Tribune. Even CTA Chairwoman Carole Brown said:
With regard to the suspension on certain articulated buses, this is a serious issue that CTA is addressing with the manufacturer of these buses -- it must be fixed.
Apparently, not according to you.

How about instead of complaining about it and writing blogs about it, how about if the CTA just fixed the problem.

So why can't NABI deliver the needed parts?
Why don't you ask NABI? You seem to direct questions to places where there are no answers, instead of to the people who might have information.

Personally, I believe that the parts should be available from other sources, but maybe they are not. In any event, if the buses were so "great" as you say (you asked about what I was talking), they shouldn't have needed massive amounts of parts so soon after delivery (in fact, from the date of the Tribune article, before the deliveries were completed).

All I'm saying is that the Nabi Articulated buses are a great bus to ride in, I don't care about its so called "needed parts."

This topic about Nabis breaking down is getting overrated, I mean come on, some buses break down and some don't. Other buses need parts and others don't.

Why, because we're telling the truth? Almost all NABIs are bad and you know it. If you can't hold out in this topic, then leave the topic. We have opinions about those NABIs, and we should be able to express them...

From driving them when i was at North Park, I can also jump on the bandwagon and say they are complete 100% GRADE A USDA certified CRAP. Amongst the problems include:

1- Terrible suspensions

2- Unneccesary and non-operator caused jerking when at a COMPLETE STOP! They busses jerk by themselves. Are you going to say thats NORMAL?

3- Extreme easiness to jacknife. If its slippery...watch out...its just TOO easy.

4- Cracks in the accordion and buckling up of the floor stipping where the accordion turns are made, which can cause tripping or injury if not noticed.

Does that justify them as still good busses?

I only like #7590 from NP. I had a bad experience with #7599...that damn bus, on the #151 Sheridan back a couple of weeks ago when we had the very bad rainfall, kept stopping every minute and the lights would blink. The bus then at one point pushed itself towards an oncoming car, but the car got out the way. My sister tripped over the accordion, but luckliy suffered no injury.

I asked because I wanted to know if the huge problem with the Nabis breaking down can be fixed.

This is the second time in this thread that you have contradicted yourself. What is the point?

I'll take a bus driver's observations (that are well articulated, get the pun) over these confused rantings.

The bus driver's observations are correct, these Nabis suck, every time I ride them on Lake Shore Drive its seems that the articulation is going to break into two parts.

  • 4 months later...

Has anyone notice how the nabis lean in the back well i know why. There are not made for the loads there get . The articulat join on them are not make for the pack loads there get . So what i have been told if that does not get fix we are going to see alot of nabis coming apart in two. Thats nice to know when ones going down the drive at 45 mph and that can happing to it isnt?

Yeah, but the MAN 7100's were leaning in the back as early as 1989. It's not necessarily that too much pressure is being put on the back, and so it leans forward. The reason that the back portions of articulateds lean forward when full is simple: when a bus is full, it becomes lower to the ground. However, there is no wheel in that part of the bus, and so nothing stops the bus from going so far down. It doesn't have anything to do with the manufacturer.

Wouldn't New Flyer hybrid artics look nice in CTA colors?
If you are talking about the standard scheme, and the original New Flyer design, no different than the existing NABIs. If you are talking about the 7800 scheme and an Advanced Styling bus, you may have something (although I don't get the 40s style fender skirts on the back wheels).

I assume that the New Flyers have better reliability, if the issue is brand rather than looks. While the prior poster indicated that all articulateds sag at the joint, CTA said that cracking at the joint was the real problem with the NABIs.
