real cta fan
Are any south side riders tired of getting on a crush loaded bus at red line?(west bound) Packed like sardines until you get to Ford City. Do you think there should be a X79 or a 79Limited to Western bus terminal and then local to Ford City? How about running Nabis artics on some of the runs on the 79. Tell me what you think about the above idea.
cta5658
i think it's great but it think the X79 could be same like the local but with limited stops (ex. damen, ashland, stony island, jeffery, cicero)
qwantae
i think it's great but it think the X79 could be same like the local but with limited stops (ex. damen, ashland, stony island, jeffery, cicero) I think that it is a great idea, especially passengers like myself havin a hard time waiting for 30 minutes on weekdays for a bus to Ford City, they are like 3- 4 buses bunching up going to Western Terminal. They're also should be an suggestion of X79 Express to Harlem or Justice during the day so people dont have to wait for a every hour 379. Its kinda Odd that I havent seen a NABI ran for #79 since 2005 when 77th started to have them. I remember that year #87 used to ran NABI and it wasnt necessary, 79th needed NABIs badly as much as #3,#4 and #6.

Do you classify that as an unusual bus sighting? Back to 79th--What about the narrow road between State and Stony Island, where nothing can pass, and there are even 4 way stop signs? Doesn't seem conducive to express. You may note that I did suggest the next series of articulateds for 79th.
CircleSeven
My only problem about this "X79" is that the majority of the passengers who take 79th street get on at local stops on side streets. If they would add some artics especially during rush hour and during weekend trips, you wouldn't have any problems. But I don't think it would be appropriate to have an X79 on 79th Street because of the narrowness of the street from Western to the lakefront. First, I want to point out that CTA actually has a contingency plan for a 79th Express. But it isn't currently funded, and unless the state rescues CTA next month, there ain't going to be funding for a long time. Call your State Reps and Senators, boys and girls. I can't comment on the narrowness of 79th, because I travel it infrequenty. But as to the people boarding at side street, one of the things about having an express route is that over time, it encourages those who are able to walk the extra block to a main corner, because there are more buses that stop there. This will help with timekeeping for both the local and the express. (Yes, for some it's more than an extra block, but for most it's an extra block or less. If we call the main streets A and E, and the 100-block side streets b, c and d, you can see that anyone who lives between A & b, or d & E lives less than a block from the main corner. For those who live between b & c or c & d, if they live closer to either b or to d, then it's only an additional block for them to walk from b or from d to the main corners. Only the people who live a half-block or less from street c find themselves walking more than an extra block to get to the main corner, so about 75% of people would walk an extra block or less.) That is true. And we won't get started with another crazy unnecessary argument on the extra block issue. I would say the only people who might be at a disadvantage would be senior citizens and the disabled or anyone else with mobility problems, like a broken leg for instance.
