If doomsday happens , 77 Archer, and Forest Glen will close. There is a system pick to take place on December 22,2007 at Chicago Garage. The routes will go as follows. 103rd will get the #3,4 6,29,95W,and 87 street. 74th will get #79, 24 combined 63rd , 71st 52A, 171, 172, 173. Kedzie will get 62,53A 49, 54B, 94. North Park will get 56, 81 92, 85. Chicago will get the rest. They chose to close these garages because they are the oldest and need the most repair. 2400 workers will loose their jobs(bus operators, Bus supervisors, Bus Instructors, Mangers, all of the 315 south shop rebuild center, Clerks Foremans and machinics. There will be only a handful of overnight buses and berley no weekend bus service.

At 103rd, the new pick goes into effect on the 30th.

If Chicago gets the rest, it seems to get a lot of crosstown routes on the south side (such as 35, 39, 47, 51). I am relying on the CTA List of remaining routes. This doesn't seem to be the most efficient, but Chicago appears to be losing a number of crosstown routes on half-mile streets (70, 73, 76). I suppose that is why many of you though that Archer wouldn't close, or as trainman indicated, its runs would be given to Kedzie (some of which were).

56 and 94 are on the cut list aren't they. So how would they be switching unless the garages are set to close before the bus cuts. I don't see how that's possible.

That's not quite correct. As noted elsewhere in the thread, some of those routes will be on the cut list.

If this were to happen, North Park would get everything from Irving Park north (including Peterson, but not including Foster, which would be eliminated). North Park would also get part of route 82 (which would free some room at Kedzie to take some of the other routes on the south side).

The 85 would go to Chicago, not North Park. Chicago Garage would get all of the Forest Glen routes that aren't eliminated or moved to North Park. They wouldn't get the east-west Archer routes like 51. I'm pretty sure those all go to 74th.

Kedzie would also get Halsted and Western.

I think Kedzie would also get the 52A, but I'm really not sure of the disposition of all of Archer's routes off the top of my head.

Also, overnight bus service would remain the same (the owl bus network is not changing). Weekend service would remain the same on the routes that remain.

Regardless of the status of funding for the "doomsday" pick, there is a pick scheduled to go into effect on December 30 for all garages. Nothing particularly noteworthy is changing for December 30, other than some running time adjustments on a handful of routes.

The real particularly noteworthy (well, from a bus fan's point of view) changes will occur in March.

The cuts will be done in multiple steps. The last steps, the ones that are the least necessary, will occur in March.

No. That's not correct.

If CTA has to cut service on January 20 due to lack of funding, everything will happen at once. The route assignment changes that are planned to happen in March are only if service is not cut.

What are the assignment changes that are coming in March given the funding situation is fixed in time.

I just realized that if the doomsday cuts go through, this will leave Jefferson Park with only something like three bus routes (#81, #85, and #270). If that's true, the Jefferson Park Terminal, as ugly as it is, will be obsolete. The CTA should just then sell the land and build a smaller, more appropriate terminal. They could put retail stores up front and have a bus lane behind. Have only two lanes, a stopping lane and a passing lane.

I don't think that the CTA owns any bus terminal or train station. All of that belongs to the city of Chicago, but all the vehicles are owned by the CTA though.

As I've stated before, there will be no doomsday and garage closings. And if no one believes me, then why am I always correct? And I don't work in the legislature.

Luck, or an inside with the governor or one of his patrons. Apparently you know more than Mayor Daley does.

And if you have a factual basis for you assertions, please share it with the RTA, which approved the doomsday budgets, and the CTA, which apparently (if we believe that you have the information) has wasted money formulating service reduction plans, caused employees anxiety by sending WARN Act notices, and held off on articulated bus purchases because they might not be needed if there is not a "funding solution." Also, tell Rick Harris of Local 308 that there is no need for a job action.

That all would be very nice, but it's just the luck that you mentioned.

Ok. I'll ask again, since no one actuallty answered my questioned but used it as a quote to go in a totally different direction. What are these bus garage assignment changes that have been mentioned that are supposed to happen in March should the funding situation be solved in time?

I think that rmadisonwi brought this up months ago, and has yet to answer the question for all of us. I guess you will just have to wait for him to come along sometime in the near future to answer this.

The March plan hasn't been finalized yet, and is still subject to some revision and final approval. The schedules won't be done for another month or so. You'll know when it's time to know.

Ok. It's just that you picqued my interest because I kept seeing everybody making reference to it but no one was saying what it was.
