Check out my cool pictures that I took and let me know what you think. Has anyone up on Michigan Ave in downtown taking pictures? These NABI buses look less tired than the ones I saw when I was visiting the Auto Show and joyriding on the CTA earlier this year. Were these NABIs at the end of a route? Guest Posted June 5, 2008 Report Share Posted June 5, 2008 Ill tell you what, Downtown is probably the best area to take bus and rail photographs without worrying about getting hasseled. There are so many people around, no one will pay attention to what youre doing. I think its better than being around a bus garage or a rail station where the chances of being challenged are greater. You see many tourists around downtown with cameras so a busfan wouldnt even get a second look. The best part about downtown is that you have so many buses of CTA and Pace from different operating garages that you have a wide variety of equipment to document as well as catching your favorite bus. They look like they're not very full from what I can tell.Since the pictures were in front of or opposite the Wrigley Building, the northside buses would be either half unloaded southbound or half loaded northbound. Its hard to tell if "they're not very full" with all the reflections off the windows, but if it was the rush hour, they would be over capacity, at least by the time they reached Oak Street. (A possible exception is if the northbound trip started at Michigan and Randolph or Wacker, in which case picking up would have just started.) This will be a New Flyer town!You'll still have 700 low floor buses of other makes (NABI and Nova), compared to 1213 NFs. Conversely, unless something radically changes, you won't see a 6000 downtown. But it does appear that large cities are going to bigger options and more homogeneous fleets. NYC is becoming mostly Orion (although there will be variety between flat front Orion VIIs and Next Gens) and LA is pretty much all NABI (although, again, some variety between conventional, BRT, and Compobus models). However, it looks like we'll have the current on the rest of the NF order. The 500s seem whimsical, which may go along with a smaller bus, but not the bigger one.
