Anyone wondering about those 10 Ex-TMC RTS Buses Peoria is using... here's an update...

-Eight of ten are routinely used for service, two are parts buses only.

-$2,000 spent on new shocks and minor repairs to the TMC's

-Four TMC's are still in service today, one on a daily basis, two for backup. The other bus needs a transmission.

-The other four are used for special events/miscellaneous reasons.

Looks like the TMC's might remain in service in Peoria until June, 2011, when they get new buses.

I was wondering about the April 2011 start date in that article for their stimulus buses, but that appears correct. Apparently they didn't have a preexisting option, chose Gillig's bid, and got put at the end of the line. Minutes.

And Peoria did what I had said in another thread. More agencies need to take a look at purchasing good quality used buses, those Rockford buses were only 10 years old and looked like they were in great shape. I'm surprised they didn't buy more, but hey I'll buy a CTA TMC bus for $975 too!

Even with the maintenance problems stated in the article? Don't forget how much you have to pay for the parts buses.

I think I told someone else that this is what my mother calls "the gift that keeps on costing."

Were Peoria's own 1992 TMC 35fts still active also?
