Gee, I am surprised nobody made a mention that Chicago Ave let some Flxibles out today. This is the second time since I been working here that I have seen it and both times no mention on here about it! I can't believe all the bustracker gawkers on here didn't catch this. Oh well, I am off to go enjoy driving 6053 until 1am!

Some sightings from today:

6061, 6047, 6053 on Pulaski

6049, 6068 on Armitage

6075, 6103 on Chicago

6063 on Grand

6064 on Madison

A kind of use them while they're still around mentality perhaps. Kind of like Kedzie putting a boatload of Flxibles on 52 and 82 since last month just about every day that it uses them, which for Kedzie is still only weekdays. I've even been seeing at least one or two rush hour stragglers on the 12 when that one hadn't been seeing any assigned for months even on a weekday. I hadn't really seen an increase anywhere else for Kedzie in proportion to NF use outside of increased usage on the two above. The only change elsewhere is that I've been seeing them blocked together on routes that still really use them instead of interspersed between the NFs though I've noticed 145/148 has been seeing them less than I remember with more of a 1000/4000 series split on those two.

Nobody noticed the Chicago Flxibles out during the weekend because we've become so used to it being all New Flyers on weekends that nobody cared for checking anymore now when it did happen.

Speak for yourself, BusExpert.

T8H, I saw those buses on BusTracker on Saturday. I just never came here to let anyone know. I was shocked, to say the least. Do you know why they were used on Saturday? Just because you guys felt like using them? If that's the case, I'm glad. It was nice seeing Chicago 6000s on BusTracker on Saturday.

No disrespect meant, but what is it about the old Flxibles that you guys get excited about? Every time I ride one of these things they're falling apart, leaking, the windows go flying open if the bus hits a pothole, the doors don't close correctly, the transmission is shot, the brakes howl like a banshee, the list goes on. I frankly can't wait for them to go.

From a rider's point of view (or mine, anyway), the New Flyer buses are almost universally a more comfortable ride, more spacious, better lighting (especially the LED-lit ones), and seem to be in a better state of repair. I'd imagine this was the same situation when the Flxibles were brand new and the buses that were being retired were in the same condition the Flxes are in now.

At the same time, I can understand preferring the older equipment to the newer stuff. I find the look of the 2200-series railcars to be more "modern" than the 5000 series. They definately do not look 40 years old, but the buses? They look quite a bit older than their age, IMO.

At least the Flxibles don't have defective heaters or frame cracks.

As much as I dislike the 6000s,....there are some operator accommodations that are offered, that the New Flyers didn't offer....

...such as (it's taking a lot to think of something)

OH! Here we go...You can go flying over potholes and speed bumps/humps and hardly feel it. In a New Flyer...the front wheels usually do "ok" with taking speed bumps, but those back wheels are something...BOOM! lol! The whole back of the bus lifts off the pavement... lol

... well, umm that's all I say about them....despite the dislikes..

I hate having making turns, and you find yourself FOREVER turning,...there is too much steering wheel play..and it seems like you'll never cut the wheel all the way.

I hate having those seats right behind me and across from me, people are uber super nosy, and are looking at you. ugh.

The kneeler and wheel-chair lifts are pain in the necks already enough... when you kneel it, you pray it lifts back up, often times...it won't. And the lift...well just say you better have the fire department on speed dial.

...I can on and on.... but I will try to get one, before the 7th if possible...but on all of my runs, I don't pull out. Just make relief.

I have my favorites

6002, 6005, 6012, 6022, 6038 & 6039 are to name a few. A couple of the Forest Glen buses are good too. I think 6101 is one of my fav's too.

There is one more reason I think Flxibles made 'unexpected' appearances on routes on Saturday.

It has to do with the exterior advertising racks of those Flxibles which have not been wrapped.

On at least one Flxible bus I espied running on #77 Belmont (albeit it was a weekday), there was an exterior advert for a candidate for office in the 2nd February primary. :o

Since Flxibles are scheduled to be retired from service on 7th February, those would be the buses on which to display the political ads.

But therefore, to give the candidate his | her money's worth, you should send out those buses on weekends, or at least on Saturday

Have you noticed what is being advertised on Flxible buses?

Sounds like you answered your own question!
