Metra Governance

Recommended Posts

Tribune got a look into Metra's "Patronage Files," and found all sorts of people involved, including Jim Edgar, who was the only recent governor not to go to federal prison, and hence presumed clean.

So is it crew members asking each other "who's your clout,"* or just (as implied by the legislative IG) "move along, nothing to see here?"

Update: Sun-Times got its own disclosure, with more names, as well as reproduced some cards.

*The one summer I worked for the state, we knew that everyone had some clout, but it was Republicans then. I had the same clout as someone who got a high level job at Metra, and then moved on to bigger things elsewhere. But I'm not naming names other than the clout eventually went to jail, and his obit didn't mention that at one time he had a state position.

That experience induced me not to take a job in Springfield, with an office holder whose deputy said "you don't work for the [office], you work for the [person]," who later also went to prison.

Should be interesting, didnt orsono just get a raise?  Hes leaving on a high note with lots of retirement $$.  Im sure nothing controversial  will happen now hes dreaming of retirement.    grab the popcorn sit back and watch.

Maybe Metra problems aren't worth $300K/year, and besides that there are always consultant gigs.

Place your bets.   Will the metra replacement be from;

1)  freight railroad

2)  commuter rail industry including metra

3)  transit industry

4) transportation industry (non rail)

5) private sector non transportation

6) political appointee

6 can be tricky as it can be part of another answer.

Winner gets bragging rights
