Pink line signs on O'Hare branch

They got a wacky setup this weekend for the single track from Lasalle to Racine on the blue line. The trains that they usually short turn at uic must be short turning at lasalle crossover. They are running trains with pink line loop signs sb. When you see them your like wth? Unfortunately the audible announcements still say train is going to forest pk. So that leads to an interesting question. If they are selecting a lineup for pink line loop how do they get blue line announcements?

So what signs are they using for short-runs? The regular UIC signs?

Wasn't the Pink "LOOP" for SB Blue Line trains heading for O'Hare?

Would be SB from O'Hare.

And, as trainman indicated, the roll signs are controlled by two knobs in the cab, and are independent of the Mr. CTA system installed decades later.

So why not just put UIC signs up and say this train is only going to Lasalle or Jackson. Riders seemed confused by this Pink line "Loop" sign including me at first. It almost looks like this is the Pink line not Blue. My operator wasn't even announcing where they were going. They seemed more concerned with were they showing Pink line signs. They even came out of the cab to look for themselves.

I think some of the 2600s and some of the 3200s do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIQE4ScQ9IE my video shows that car #3239 has them (but wouldn't be helpful because the Blue Line doesn't use the 3200s).

That one is weird, in that it appears to have only 10 readings, instead of 15, and if presumably an Orange car roll, the Midway appears black, not Orange. Seems only comprehensive enough for the Green Line.

Since the 54th/Cermak sign (Blue) isn't in use anymore, couldn't that be changed to a more helpful/reasonable destination?

Since it looks like CTA isn't into taping a new reading into an old sign, that gets back to needing another contract for 900 roll signs.* Somebody should have thought about that when they replaced a nonuseful Green Line reading with Jefferson Park (according to someone who claimed to have 4 rolls of readings).

_______

*As they did for the Red Line project to get the red Ashland/63 reading.

What was the non useful Green Line reading?

What was the non useful Green Line reading?

The Green 'Loop' sign.

As Busjack brought up, it's expensive to have another contract of roll signs done when only 1 or 2 modifications are made, hence why the 5000 series have the programmable LED signs. We saw that example when they introduced the Green 'Roosevelt' sign along with the defunct 'Loop' sign from the roller curtain during the Red Line South Reconstruction Project. I believe there are still some short turns during rush hour currently, but cannot say for sure.
