Yeah, you’re right the hybrid order. Still curious on who the manufacturer is going to be for that order. Would love to see some brand new flyers. Pace got gillig (hybrids and electric )so it would be interesting if CTA got gilligs. Gillig  doesnt have the capacity to build busses as fast as new flyer or Nova before they left the U.S,could do for major metro cites large orders. But 150 they could do easy it definitely will be interesting

We could definitely get a chance to see  new flyers again, I hope we get more. Now that Nova is out of business in the US, it’s a high conviction rate that CTA would move forward with New Flyer like they’ve done before during the delivery of the 1000s and their hybrid counterparts from when Nova was also out of business during that timeframe. But they could also try out Gilligs which a few of us mentioned on here. The current Nova’s (especially the 7900s) don’t catch my interest, but we have 1,050 identical buses between the three series here.

If NABI and Flxible was still in business, they’d definitely would do design changes that’ll reflect how the buses would look today. Gillig hasn’t changed much on its bus designs but noticeably the headlight configuration etc but overall the buses still look the same.

Dang, I’m surprised it’s not in the boneyard. It’s sad to see that the Allison’s aren’t even 20 years old and they are retiring earlier than the 2005 flyers.

Maybe if you read the thread, you would know why.

The real question is with the rehab solicitation canceled, what CTA intends to do forward, other than the 150 hybrids? Shrink the fleet to 1200? Keep The Breakdown Thread going? I guess we'll find out when the NITA CIP is published.

I know why they are retiring earlier. 1630-2029 have different types of steel right near the wheels. They rust more than the other new flyers.

When buses are near their deaths transit they will run them as is until it’s time to retire

Ahhh so if maintenance gets too expensive to repair, it runs until it’s capable of not being safe to drive/ride OR it breaks down and can’t be repaired. That’s what happened with #2006.
