Interlineing Routes

They don't interline, they overlap (an interline is like 209 becoming 234). Also, the main reason was that CTA originally operated the routes. In the case of 17, CTA was the sole operator way outside of its territory, to substitute for the Westchester L. In the case of 49A, it overlapped the South Suburban Safeway Lines South Western route (originally considered to be 351).

In the 1997 and some prior cutbacks, CTA decided to cede most of the work to Pace, except for some supplemental rush hour service. This also included weekend routes 204 and 54A. Apparently the latter two did not work to Pace's satisfaction, or Pace decided not to do CTA's work (one consultant said there was no sense providing better Saturday service than during the week), and so Pace cut 204 and 254 as part of the North Shore Initiative. Interestingly, after CTA converted its 204 to 93, it no longer recognized Pace 204 on its maps or signs.

CTA Routes 34/119 Interlines With Pace Route 353 On The Roseland Area Of Michigan Ave. And The 8A/108 Interlines With The 352/359

That's not interlining...thats simply an overlap.

And if anything, the 353 overlaps between 115th and 130th only, so there's no true interlining there. The 352 and 359 isn't interlined with the CTA routes--they run express (or in some 352 cases, limited stops) to 119th or 127th.

That's the same with 270, when it runs express from The Jeff to Devon: doesn't really pick up passengers or drop them off unless signals during rush periods.

Overlap means that multiple routes run along the same street.

Interlining means that multiple routes use the same bus between when the bus pulls out and when it pulls in. CTA and Pace routes do not interline with each other, nor can they, as they are operated by two completely different agencies.

On the other hand, routes 34 and 119 will soon interline with each other. They may do so now, to a limited extent. But they will do so even more starting with the fall pick (i.e. a bus arriving at 95th as a 34 and departing as a 119, and vice versa).

They did at one time with 151 interlining with some of the Expresses and the old 14 doing the same. Since the new south side route adjustments (with 14 now being Jeffery Express instead of South Lake Shore Express), it does not seem as that is entirely the case. There are many Kedzie garage buses doing those routes. I have seen a few 4600's on the 121 and 123 and if that is the case, maybe they are somehow interlining with the X28.

I don't think any 121s interline with the X28. There are some 14s, at least in the afternoon, that start out as 121s.

On the north side, there is some complex interlining between routes, especially as many buses deadhead from downtown to the north side in the morning to do another inbound trip.

Some buses on route 135 also turn to route 125 in the morning.
