I just wanna know if the 900s will come after 800s retire. Oh and if CTA needed more money, they could have cut the original order of 1000s, and replace them with the hybrids.....CTA always makes bad decisions though. Busjack Posted July 12, 2007 Report Share Posted July 12, 2007 You missed a couple of points here.The 800s and series hybrid buses were part of the same order. As to why the 900s apparently haven't been seen yet, ask New Flyer. However, one was not to substitute for the other.The Compobus order was for up to 25, but also was apparently mutually canceled when NABI decided to end Compobus production. Although no one here has heard the official word, apparently CTA just rejected the prototype, and that was that.The CTA is now firmly committed to the full New Flyer contract of 1050 buses. 1030 of them will be diesel.While I questioned if the test of hybrids was bona fide, if the test would not be completed before making the decision whether to exercise the New Flyer options, apparently CTA had financial reasons for making that decision. Last Sunday around 6pm, I've saw a 900 for the 1st time, but I couldnt tell which route or garage that was from, though. Pretty cool!!! Looks better than the 800. Occasionally, they'll make their way onto other routes (I've seen them on the 10, 126, 134, and 151). With new hybrids being delivered, they make their way onto other routes a bit more than occasionally. I haven't yet had the occasion to track Archer's or Chicago's hybrids, to see where they wind up most often. I've seen them sporadically here and there. The number was something like 808 or 809. Just couldn't tell from my viewpoint. These buses look very cool and better than 1000s when you get to actually see them. The bus was most likely heading to Kedzie, not Monitor. Run 646 is a 127, which would finish its day by operating a short trip down Roosevelt to Kedzie before pulling in. But the bus is clearly running on the #12 Roosevelt or maybe the run is a short turn to Kedzie. But this bus cannot be operating on the 127 because even if the destination sign is broken, there are no paper signs indicating a different route. If you look at the 127 schedule, the scheduled runs start and end at the Roosevelt L station. Since that is no where near the barn, rmadison is saying that the bus then becomes a Roosevelt, and takes a short trip to Kedzie, where the Kedzie Garage is located. (Maybe that is why it is called the Kedzie Garage.) Haven't you heard of interlining, or would you prefer that the bus say "Out of Service" and run as an empty deadhead? They are the same bus but with a roof mounted electrical unit if I'm not mistaken. What I wish CTA could get to fill the remainder of the 40fts: The updated 2007 New Flyers. Very sleek looking. Vancouver launched that design a couple of years ago with their new trolley order (and also ordered CNG and diesel buses of the same style), and have had numerous problems with those buses related to the redesign. There have been three or four different front door designs so far, and the headlight configuration has to get redone due to problems with bike racks. BusExpert32 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Share Posted September 6, 2007 I thought about 66 Chicago but I wasn't sure if any 800s run there since I rode the #66 several times in the past few months (rush hour, midday, evening, and weekends), but haven't seen any Hybrids running. Good spotting though, I guess the CTA uses the hybrids mostly on weekends, also according to the 800 on 62 Archer sighting (Sunday, August 12).
