I go by there almost every Sunday and during some weekdays. Never picked up on this. But don't worry, I will have my eyes peeled to look out for it. BusExpert32
Even though I don't doubt your sighting, it's still really hard to believe that the CTA would be stupid enough to put a #85 sign on a #82 designated stop. Just saying, it's hard to believe, really, please, understand me on this.

How could they be so stupid as to post an 85 Central sign on Kimball ave.? I said to myself, How could CTA labor workers be that god awful lazy to place that sign when they damn well know it does not belong there. Someone is obviously not doing their job. ryanbytes
When the Lincoln signs started to change for the new route it looked like contractors were doing the work. It seemed like they really didn't care about what they were doing. I can't remember where I was but the guy switching out the signs had to ask his buddy in the truck multiple times which sign to take down at a stop with multiple routes. Chicago13
I definitely believe it happend. Awhile back I was driving down Fullerton avenue and saw a couple 94 South California signs posted between California & Sacramento. Obviously the chuzzlehead who posted them confused Fullerton with FULTON. (The 94 operates on Fulton between California & Sacramento).. They didn't stay up long, only a few days as I recall. Just saying, it's hard to believe, really, please, understand me on this. It's not all that hard to believe. I used to live on the southern portion of that route at Homan and Roosevelt. Back when the buses on that route used to turn at Roosevelt instead of Douglas like they do today, there used to be an 85 Central bus stop sign posted at the old northbound Roosevelt and Central Park stop. I remember that very well. I think this was 1997. It was the bus stop on the Southeast corner of Roosevelt & Central Park and they did have a 85 Central Sign on the corner. They changed it after like a couple of months.
cta_44499_FG
I'll go get a look next Monday (I can't this or next weekend). Likewise at the intersection of Wellington and Central northbound there is an 82 Kimball/Homan bus stop. Now we know where the correct signage wound up! LOL!

You're right it was the southbound stop now that I think about it. I was trying to remember which direction the stop served, but I was sure it was that intersection. qwantae
Here's another couple issues on bus stop signs, First, the bus stop posted on Cermak on the Northeast corner of Harlem listed #21/304/322 westbound, Only #21/ (322 to N.Riverside only) bus stops there but not #304/322 to Yorktown. Those two routes makes a left on Harlem to go south and stops on Harlem in front of Pearl Vision store w/ #307. That error sign has been there since #21 replaced #25. Second, lately after the changes between #3- King Drive/ #4- Cottage Grove; I've seen #4 Cottage Grove bus stop sign "to 95/St Lawrence (Chicago State University), I dont know about now, but did they ever change those and also #3 King Drive signs "To 95/ Dan Ryan"?? qwantae
Today, When I was on pace #302 going from Laramie/ Cermak to Brookfield I was waiting for the bus on Laramie in front of gas station at Cermak with a missing bus stop sign. I checked at #21 bus stop sign (Eastbound) in front of gas station, there is a 302 posted with N60 and 21 but 302 doesnt stop there, it stops on Laramie before it makes it right to Cicero. nextstopchicago
There is a sign on the westbound side of North Avenue somewhere between Western and Wabansia (didn't pay close attention) where all the writing that would normally have told route information and streets and the little map was stickered over. The top sticker said westbound (and the North Ave. portion of the sign remained uncovered.) I'm assuming they put up an eastbound sign on the westbound side or something. I'll try to look more closely next time I go by.
BUSANGEL#1
For some reason #111 bus stops will never be right. Half of the route is not even on the sign, and there are two #111 signs on Monterey west of Vincenns when there should be #112 signs. Also there still haven't been any new signs east on 95th in 10 years. Some are missing and some are unreadable.
