MetroShadow
Are there contingency plans in the event that Amtrak goes on strike and would shut down Chicago Union Station (and with no clause to keep commuter trains running) ? Busjack
Word coming out of DC is Amtrak is settling with the unionsThe Tribune so reported. Maybe, though, this is a reason for the Bush Administration proposal to turn over Union Station to Metra (as well as the same with regard to other stations and transit authorities). This was brought up before just after Gunn came on-board when Amtrak was looking at shutting down in the summer due to lack of funding when amtrak was trying to meet their daily expenses. Metra didn't want the huge costs and responsiblity for operating the station.
