Busjack
It's worse at Golf Mill, where the bus stop is way outside of Penney's, when it should be at one of the mall entrances, preferably where the food court is. Or the way the insane 290 buses have to go into Lincolnwood Town Center. It's easily a 3/4ths mile drive in & out of that place, what with the buses having to go all the way to the back, when there are entrances just off of Touhy Ave. In all of these cases, it is where the private owner of the mall allows it. Also, the Golf Mill shelters have Village of Niles emblems on them, so it may be questionable whether mall management is in control of it. Furthermore, it is questionable whether a mall entrance could take care of being the layover for 5 full sized bus routes,* especially since 3 Free Bus routes stop at the mall, and I'm pretty sure the Village of Niles considers the Free Bus to be the feeder to the mall. As part of some ART project, there was a proposal to move the transfer center to the north end of the property, parallel to Golf Road, facilitating more direct bus traffic to or from Golf, and Milwaukee through buses taking Greenwood to Milwaukee northbound.I don't know if that is still on the table, given such things as that the weekday 272 has pretty much been disconnected from 270. But if they did that, the walk to Target would be worse. Anyway, Golf Mill is only half alive. Maybe a better question is why 471 goes into Deerbrook, when that shopping center is 90% dead. If it had any life at all, it didn't help that TJ Maxx moved to Northbrook. *Which finally makes it relevant to this topic, as Yorktown management did not want its parking lot turned into a layover point. trainman8119
I remember when the Golf Mill stop was outside of Sears on the east side of the mall. The current location has been there for years and years ... back to the Nortran days.
andrethebusman
There is a long history of mall vs buses animosity. Milwaukee had some really strange stuff. At one mall on south side four buses each stopped at different entrances with NO signs and NO directional inside. At another buses stopped at furthest corner of parking lot. And remember last days at Scottsdale on 79th? Bus stop was on east side where entrance was closed off, only entrance was on other side, a good block away on foot? Many mall managers think buses bring in shoplifters, not shoppers, so let's give security a better chance at catching them before they get away! Busjack
There is a long history of mall vs buses animosity. ... The current question (broached before) is whether 357 will continue to stop at "Lincoln Mall," when a judge now has ordered that all of it, except Carson's, be closed and presumably demolished in early 2015. Mall management seems to not mind (and there were pace stops along the north/west sides of the mall - especially before the 2005 restructuring). Busjack
Wonder when ART comes to touhy if art stays on touhy or loops into lincolnwood mall There doesn't seem to be any plan for that, and it certainly wouldn't work east of there, because east of there it is essentially city service on a very narrow street. One might argue west of there, but all the short terminals indicates that demand peters out. But if CTA can get artics in there, there doesn't seem anything preventing that. Also, ART is supposed to be implemented on 322, but it is hard to conceive that it would bypass Oakbrook Center and Yorktown.

Yeah I was thinking more in terms of the #82 being the only other route that operates with a higher demand and the fact that it does enter the mall at the south end. You likely have more passengers transferring to the #82 from the #290 than you do to a #96 or #210.
Busjack
The current question (broached before) is whether 357 will continue to stop at "Lincoln Mall," when a judge now has ordered that all of it, except Carson's, be closed and presumably demolished in early 2015. There is now a passenger notice on how the bus will not stop at the "mall" proper, instead just going to Penney and Target (apparently out lot stores). Busjack
Now moved to near Stir Crazy, which is closer to, but not, the original stop. Notice Like the Glenbrook Hospital move, there is an explanation for this, which is that Arhaus has a new entrance with large display windows on the south wall of the mall, so I guess they didn't want buses blocking it.
