don't dus drivers know what run time there bus is becasue i saw 2 buses on division and western 5766 and 1444. bus 5766 had run time 53?? and 1444 had 50??.

First of all whats a dus driver? :) JK! :) That reminds me of the The Honeymooners $99,000 episode where Jackie Gleason says "I brive a dus!" and then says "I dus a brive"! :) That scene makes ma laugh so hard, a classic!. Now are you referring to the "run box"? The "run time" is their time schedule that indicates where they they should be at certain points along the line. The "5" in their run box is the garage code for Chicago Ave garage. But what I still dont understand is why they use the "5" code in the run box when Chicago ave's real garage code is "C".

Maybe there are enough pieces to put together the puzzle, assuming that you used ?? without any significance. You also provided the pieces.

The garages page says that 5000 run numbers are for Madison and 5300s are for Pulaski. I guess you thought it was strange because 5600s are used on Division.

Apparently you saw interlined buses, as you said that you saw 1444 on BusTracker on Madison an hour later. So, apparently, it started on Division but moved to Madison.

Of course, one of our several drivers from Chicago Garage could probably give us a more definitive answer.

You saw run 075, which pulls out to Division and Western to do a school trip on the 70 Division to Austin. When it gets to Austin it deadheads over to Madison/Austin and does a round on the 20 Madison, Austin to Randolph/Columbus back to Austin and then back to Madison/Pulaski and then pulls in to the garage.

We have many runs that interline between multiple routes, some runs you keep the same bus, some runs after your fallback you go to a different route. It all depends on what the run requires you to do. The 73 Armitage and 57 Laramie is a good example. Most runs you work a little of both; You come into Grand/Latrobe loop as one and leave as the other!

This is what I'd kind of explained in this post last year. A good example of some runs that keep their buses during their fallbacks are mostly nightcars, including those three Halsted runs during the overnight hours. And what you also explained that school trip that deadheads from Division & Austin Blvd., most deadheads happens in downtown routes, but it can happen at any route.

Deadheads are when you finish a trip and then you go non-stop from one point to the next, and then start on another trip (either it's the same spot you started on or a different spot). Another example: You could have a run that all you do is westbound #126 Jackson trips. When you finish turning left to Austin, then you deadhead via the I-290 and Congress Parkway straight down, and then finish the deadhead at Congress Plaza and do another westbound #126 trip.

I also think I explained this before here. But there was a 146 Michigan Express run that did a 92 Foster school trip (and that bus itself was a NABI) starting at Foster & Kimball going eastbound before ending that trip at Berwyn & Broadway and became a 146.

The driver could do two or maybe three routes on the first platform, and on the next plat they could do two more routes on the second platform. And as I explained before, some might have three platforms.

I dunno how many runs that interline now. But routes could be interlined with others if most routes served by one garage that terminates at the same terminal (i.e. most routes terminate Jefferson Park are from the Glen and most buses that terminate at 95th & State are carried by 103rd).

Some routes can be interlined even if its not from the same terminal...this simply requiring deadheading. The run that relieves me on Monday finishes a northbound 147 trip to Devon and Broadway and then deadheads to the Berwyn Red Line to do a 146. This can also happen with 135/136 especially in the PM since the northbound trips originate at the same location, being Jackson and Franklin. I had a run once before where I did a 152, deadhead to Lower Randolph/Columbus, work a 147 northbound to Howard, and then deadhead to Berwyn Red Line to be relieved for the driver to do a 146.

Also like it has already been said, sometimes the first and second platforms are on two different lines. The run number simply is based on the route you spend most of your time on. For example, my Monday run 035 I only do a trip in a half on the 147 but then my second half is 151. Saturday I do run 683 which is primarily a 147 pullin and then pullout and I'm the bummer bus on the 36.

This explanation could go on forever, but thats pretty much the gist of it.

I remember that there was an AM 148 run that made an interline with the 12 when the latter served Museum Campus. I caught it a few times during the 8 am hour on southbound trips as a 148 and would see that same bus and run during the midday as a 12 Roosevelt. There were other times I'd see a bus operating as a 12 in the midday hours and then later the same day it would be a 148 PM trip. A couple of questions for the forum members who are Kedzie operators, is this afternoon 12/148 interline the same run as the morning interline and does Kedzie still operate the interline run now that the winter changes have gone into affect?

Thank you for this clarification. I wondered about the articulated buses from North Park making an eastbound run on #152 Addison (on BusTracker, their destination is shown as "Lake Shore", not "Lake Shore and Waveland"): They probably ran to downtown and then would reappear on BusTracker on another route back north (presuming that route was on BusTracker).

Does anyone have any specifics on these extra #152 Addison runs?

They're school tripper runs, many of which start at Lane Tech. They're also used for extras during the baseball season.

Not much more than what was probably already explained by another member. Most are Lane Tech School trips, most the time are articulated buses. These runs for the most part only work west to Austin or Harlem before turning back east, one run goes all the way to Cumberland. There is also one or two that start eastbound at Lane Tech and also at Foreman. The westbound school trippers for Foreman are based out of Forest Glen.

Wouldn't be Foreman. That's on Belmont. I've seen some runs start at Gordon Tech at Addison & California. The other big school is my alma mater, Schurz at Addison & Milwuakee.

CTA5750<<C.S.H.S. Class of 1989! This year is our 20 yr reunion. I cant believe, 20 years ago. At that time I was boarding Flyer D901s 98/9900s/1600s, GMC 9400 albinos and a bus that was numbered #301 on trippers to Logan Sq! :) It was the last of this series.
