Dam C gave up the 2000's they had 1979-2029 since brand new

Yep, Chicago garage still has #1982 and #2019 since they’ve both entered service there in the early half of 2009. #1950 is also there as well, with them being the last 3 standing.

I remember seeing #1950 out of 77th when it first arrived, all buses numbered 1930-2029 are 2008 models and not 2009 as I always assumed. With #2029 being the last numbered in this series, it was delivered in June 2008. It was retired in 2023.

FG holds the most flyers sitting at 145 and they got rid of 1631-1633, 1653 only to get 1720 and 1832 from NP lol, this is the current numbers of 1000’s per garage

103rd: 35

Kedzie: 61

Forest Glen: 145

North Park: 64

74th: 125

77th: 102

Chicago: 102

I thought NP had 67? I guess I counted some retired buses too.

2021 and 2022 was the start, 2023 was the most action packed year where the most buses ended up getting retired, and then it slowed down in 2024 and even slower in 2025, and now in 2026 we still have like 45 left in service

Crazy that some new flyers last longer than others. I guess some garages have better maintenance than others. But then again, all buses from all garages do visit SS occasionally.

Alright I just counted again and it does have 64. #1388 is still on the roster but it’s a loan and #1762, #1767 and #1826 have been retired but are still on the roster which adds 4 additional buses which is why I thought it was 67.

At this point I feel like everything that’s left between 1631 and 2019 should be at one garage, like they left all the 6400s at Forest Glen till they retired, despite the retirements have basically slowed down and it’s just the lucky group of buses that didn’t rust as fast are still active - I’m surprised at this point that group even made it this far I was expecting them all to be retired by 2025 when the major retirement spree happened around 2023.

Truly agree here, it makes sense to do it to make retirements more efficient

right now they do, i believe 1767 and 1826 are done. 1388 still shows under P but its back at F

#1767 is retired in the boneyard I believe and #1762 might be on hold for maintenance. Not sure though. I think #1762 is retired.

Still no word on the supposed last rehab of the remaining 1000s. And looking at the list posted there are a little over 500 left. If no rehab is expected then I say next year or 2028 will be the end of the 1000s imo

Yes I agree, I also feel like the 4000’s wont even last into 2027 because of the constant breakdowns with them. I also think that the 4300’s are more reliable than the 4000’s and might last from 2029-2032.

They are 4/5 years older than the 4300s with them now 18 years old, that’s something to expect because CTA takes a long time to replace buses when needed nowadays. 2027 is 2 months away so they’ll definitely be here, hopefully they get new artics at least by the end of next year.

Maybe the best of what's left of the 4300s they are carbon framed like the 4000s  as long as they dont rust out they would make it to 2030

Those somewhat pre emissions cummins motors the flyers got are very good motors  way better than these DEF motors that all diesel motors ran on. The agency definitely got their money's worth out the flyers

There is supposedly a round of 150 ‘40 foot buses coming sometime next year. They will replace some 1000s

Well #4320 and #4360 are rust buckets so they won’t make it to 2030 if they aren’t taken care of sooner.

Yeah, your right the hybrid order. Still curious on who the manufacturer is going to be for that order. Would love to see some brand new flyers. Pace got gillig (hybrids and electric )so it would be interesting if CTA got gilligs. Gillig  doesnt have the capacity to build busses as fast as new flyer or Nova before they left the U.S,could do for major metro cites large orders. But 150 they could do easy it definitely will be interesting

Quick correction. Only Nova left the US market to concentrate its operations on Canada. New Flyer is still very much in play and still the top dog of bus manufacturers for American TAs. I agree that it would be interesting to see Gilligs at CTA, but this order is the last one CTA will do on its own before NITA takes over that side of things. So Gillig may still have to work harder though CTA still has to give them a fair shake legally if they do present a bid. Nova pulling out of the US still definitely works in their favor given there are so few transit bus manufacturers left supplying American transit needs.

A bit off topic but if CTA does get Gilligs, won’t they have a windshield wiper on opposite sides of each other? Also if they do get Gilligs it would be interesting to see the LCD screens from the Proterras and 8350’s on them.

You're correct new flyer is still a dominant manufacturer in the U.S. i meant Nova leaving the US

Idk about the placement of the windshield wiper . When it comes down to the specs thats between CTA  and who ever the manufacturer is (gillig, New flyer) CTA  seems to not like change too much Example if New flyer still made the D40lf imo, CTA would order D40lf instead of the D40lfR  or which at the time the 1000s were deing delivered D40lfr was a new option  New flyer had for the D40lf platform. CTA went for the standard style. I always wonder why pace and CTA haven't piggybacked bus orders maybe since the fishbowl days. (I wasnt even thought of then lol) but as far as I can remember cta and pace never had the same bus model. When new flyer won the bid for Pace in 2019 and then Cta but out a bid for its order of busses while im pretty sure alot of people on this foreum including myself wanted newflyer to take the contract. Nova ended up winning the contract  and in the back of my mind I had a feeling that would happen and it did. I am pretty sure its more to it thats above my paygrade lol but thats why I say it will be interesting if CTA get gilligs

Maybe it might be Nova LFSE to get ordered next year because there was a prototype LFSE at 77th in 2022. Idk where it is now.
