So at the basically between 1991 and 1994 Limits had 1600's and 9800's with Some Americana's loaned for the day? Just where would they Park the Americana's if the garage was small? Outside? Thanks

I'm assuming that your new post refers to an Americana (different headsign window). While maybe surprising, given the predominance of D901s, possible, since Limits was built as a streetcar barn, to essentially the same specs as 69th and Archer, and 69th had Americanas until the end (when replaced by 74th).

The Northwestern collection has some interesting photos, including a 1955 picture of CMC buses parked at Limits,, which was originally a CSL barn, but apparently taken shortly after Ravenswood Garage closed,  but before the buses were repainted (it also has a CTA decal). Also, while there are several pictures of former CMC buses on 8 Halsted around 63rd St., including this one in this collection, they must have been from Limits, as illustrated here. That reminded me that 8 was split between Limits and 77th and 9 between 69th and Limits.

Mentioning Americanas, here's one with a freaky paint job.

Actually 8 Halsted was also split between 69th & Limits.

Wow.  I totally missed the era that Archer ran buses on Halsted     Most of that time I was in the Twin Cities.   However,  that was also the beginning of the Lake Shore Drive Restructuring which i was here for.  I just didn't know Archer shared the 8 with 74th. By the time I returned,  74th was the exclusive garage for the 8.

Until the Orange Line opened there was also a 42 Halsted, /Archer route that went downtown.   That route operated out of 77th unti69th took over the 8 and 42.  That may be part of the reason that the 8 and 9 were shared with Limits ( Ashland had the 45 Ashland/ Archer).  Upon Limiclosure, the 8 mostly operated out of one garage.

Although eliminating 42 and 45 took the pressure off, I think this is putting the cart before the horse. At least late night 8 and 9 are not as unbalanced NB and SB as they were a couple of years ago.

Mostly true. Don't forget though that 42 got resurrected a short time after its initial elimination upon the Orange line opening and survived for a few years until its final elimination during the Booz-Allen era of service cuts. Matter of fact, I remember it survived long enough after the 74th replacement of 69th to be operated with primarily Flxible 6000s during its final years of operation. It also had a slight modification of routing SB via Archer, Cermak and Halsted so that buses in that direction could use the nearside stop on Halsted at Archer and connect closer with the Halsted Orange Line station. Also route histories given for 42 and 45 on IRM don't mention periods of either being shared between Archer and 69th like main routes 8 and 9. What's indicated is that the 42 had been a 77th route up until April 24, 1983, after which it went to 69th up until its first elimination in 1993 when the Orange Line opened. After that it got resurrected in March of the following year 69th (74th starting July 1995) route up until its elimination for good in 1997 under the first round of Booz-Allen cuts. 45 is indicated as spending its whole life as a 69th route. That pretty much jibes with my memory as a kid having seen a mix of Fishbowls, Americanas and D901s on 8 and 9 while only having seen Fishbowls and Americanas on 42 and 45 during the years leading up to Orange Line opening.
