So, what's your source? There are some news articles about revitalization around Hohman at Rimbach/Fayette, but no train station. Having grown up there, I can now say there is no Downtown Hammond. Again, with respect to Pace extending further into Indiana, there's no indication that the RTA would authorize it. I'm not clear why the Dan Rabin transit center had to close when the RBA fell apart, but that's why Pace [to get back to the topic] and GPTC moved to Morton/Willow. 20 minutes ago, Tcmetro said: The city says that it will open in August 2026. I'm still not convinced this makes sense in the grand scheme of things.
Tcmetro
A lot of the old downtown cores on the Metra lines have built up apartment buildings and shopping areas partially due to access to the train. I get that NWI is not the same as Arlington Heights, but perhaps there's an untapped market.

Still, all that it would serve at the moment is the federal courthouse.

But you're talking more like redeveloping downtown Harvey than Arlington Heights, with regard to train station access spurring development.. Busjack
I don't know how long this has been out there, but the January minutes state that there will be 12 trains a day from Munster/Dyer to Chicago plus shuttle service between Munster/Dyer and Hammond Gateway. IDK if shuttle service was mentioned before.

It may have been in the plans but I don't recall shuttles ever being mentioned. I guess the shuttles will be very early morning and late evening, similar to what Metra Electric did once upon a time with the South Chicago and Blue Island branch shuttles. I guess the shuttles will be very early morning and late evening, similar to what Metra Electric did once upon a time with the South Chicago and Blue Island branch shuttles. I was thinking this over when I saw the new reply notification, but I don't think that's what it is. First it says 6 trains in the morning and 6 in the evening between Dyer and Chicago. The implication is that something (i.e. shuttles) will run midday. Weekdays, trains stop very roughly once an hour at Hammond Gateway between 9 am and 3 pm. Something has to connect with them. Evening, the only WB trains at Hammond are at 7:52 and 11:15 and EB at 7:00, so the South Shore does not run regular late service like ME did. Some other thoughts: 6 trains in the morning and 6 in the evening doesn't necessarily mean 3 round trips, as SS has the practice of laying over trains midday downtown. Mayor McDermott wanted the Hammond station moved west, but the implication was to transfer to EB trains. If a number of Monon corridor trains require a transfer, one would think they would use the same platform as the Lakeshore trains, but YouTube videos indicate transferring passengers have to use an elevator or ramp
