TMC-RTS-08
I am heading upto Chicago on the weekend of Sept 27th-Oct 3rd, but I wondering how many TMCs are left. The "Whats left of the 4400s" thread hasn't been updated in months. I am wondering if I am still able to find TMCs or even 5300 Flxs at the 95/Ryan terminal on weekends? I'd like to focus on that area again, but does the 77th and 103rd St garages run these on weekends anymore? On the other hand, I had a great time while in Japan and Taiwan. I have pics of various buses from Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Taipei. I got to ride on some of them too. I noticed that buses in both countries are mostly manual transmissions. In Taiwan, they have Daewoo buses that have a resemblance to the RTS-08 WFD. Then theres another type of bus that has some resemblance to the RTS-06, and I managed to get pics of these! Seems like Taipei has renewed its bus fleet recently with new low floor buses from Daewoo and some new high floor Isuzu, Mitsubishi Fuso, and Kia buses. I'd like to share the pictures on here, anyone know where I can post the thread?

All that are left in the city are at Chicago garage, which is not all that many. The only 1991 buses left on the south side of the city are the 4400s that are left at 77th and 103rd garages. Time's ticking on the 4400s at 103rd now too because of the ongoing deliveries of NFs to 103rd.

The last 42 remaining 5300s are at Chicago. 77th has only 24 4400s and 103rd has 48 left, with a paltry 7 assigned to North Park.
jajuan
Here's one interesting observation I had last night. I spotted a TMC exiting the Outer Dr with passengers aboard. I couldn't tell if it was a 146 or 147 because the TMCs' destination signs at night are impossible to read with the same type of fade outs that happened with the Americana flip dot signs. I didn't get a chance to get a vehicle number because I only had just enough time to see that it was coming off the two lanes of traffic of the SB Michigan Ave exit off the Outer Drive and NOT the local lanes of Inner LSD that those lanes merge with at Oak St before the 147 I was on dipped down on the underpass of the northbound entrance onto the Outer Drive. In any event, whether it was 146 or 147, it's the first time I saw NP assign a TMC to either of these routes ever since they both went live on Bustracker. I thought it was awfully weird, too, but there it was! --- northbound on Marine Drive at Lawrence about 12:30 AM with maybe a half dozen passengers aboard. And yep, it was actually signed as a 146. Out of curiosity, I checked BusTracker a few minutes later. 4592 was no doubt heading home; all that remained was a lone NF (1535) bringing up the rear. nflyer22
Just half an hour ago I rode 4565 on the #24 Wentworth back home, and I gotta say, looks and sounds on the outside can be very deceiving; looks all beat up and the engines sounds even worse. But on the inside, it was a very smooth and nice ride; the air conditioning couldn't work any better after long, warm school day, and the engine, ironically, wasn't loud at all inside. When I got off, I stared at it as it slowly pulled away from me, just the all the other 300+ that have already left us. One of the best and last rides I'll ever have on a TMC. qwantae
Today on Saturday afternoon, I spotted #4711 at Dan Ryan/ 95 working #119 Michigan/ 119. I was so happy that I finally saw it on Saturday after 4 months. 4711 still looks pretty good shape. The "old" driver seems to be enjoying driving it before it leaves the rooster. I also did spotted #4687 on 67th/ Dorchester passing my street (Dorchester) working #N5 South Shore Night bus around 1am. Before it passes my street. I can hear that loud engine sound it was few blocks from my house. I never seen any TMCs running nights for a while since Spring when I use to see them on #151 and #22 on North Side. I guess now "0ldie" drivers trys to enjoying them hardly before it leaves soon. I know I am enjoying it.

On occasion an operator requests a certain bus and the sign out personnel will give them the bus requested.

You got that right, Here's other good news about Chicago Ave 5300s, Saturday night at 11pm, I was waiting to pick up my friend from work at Bricktown Shopping Center (Former Brickyard Mall) at Narragansett and Fullerton at Burger King lot, I've spotted #5662 working #74- Fullerton going eastbound picking up passengers at corner bus stop there. Man, Drivers are really depending on 1991 buses for last minute before retiring, I would do the same thing, I wouldn't care on Sundays or night owl that Im the only driver in the whole city with a TMC or 5300s, maybe MAN (if they are still around) drivin them on a route, even a Nova Classic from Pace. But I am very unhappy that TMCs no longer at North Park, thats not CTA for me, Im sorry.

Showing how time changes things, it's getting hard to spot TMC's on weekdays now. In the loop your lucky if you see 3 or 4 on any given rush period. The #2 and #24 are pretty good for a TMC or 2. 77th seemed to pick up most of the last of what NP had for TMC's. Spotted #4601 on the #6 yesterday. What's weird to me is that 103rd has the most TMC's yet I haven't seen any in the loop for a least a month. They seem to be running those strictly on the south side. It is pretty rare that I never seen any TMC on #29 State, but I've seen 1 or 2 on #14 Jeffery Express couple weeks ago and I rode my favorite former NP's #4485 on that route #14 on Lake Shore drive, it still drives pretty nice. qwantae
This Past Saturday late afternoon, I spotted 4 TMCs at Dan Ryan/ 95th with #4485 which is my favorite, #4781, #4749, and #4618. All of them working between Route 119 Michigan/119 and #34 South Michigan. I've chosen to ride the #4485 on 34 S. Michigan to Roseland at 113th/ Michigan to shop alittle and them I caught #4618 from Roseland back to Dan Ryan/95. I had a great time. I guess You'll more seeing some TMCs in Wild Wild 100s mostly on weekends.
