jacksone44
On bus routes that originate out of Chicago and 103rd, why is it that the garage code in the run number is different than the garage code that is on the bus? example: Run 1301 (#29 Run) has "1" in the run number but the bus that comes from 103rd Garage has an "03" in the windshield. Just Curious....

Just Curious.... You only get one character for a garage code. What doesn't make sense is why the windshield tag is 03. I still believe that C being 5 is a throwback to not having a C on the roll sign (at least at some point). Maybe CTA can figure out that you can reprogram the LED run boxes. Most other times the usual 5xxx run number has been in place.
cta5300
i have never seen a bus out of chicago with a "C" in the runbox only as the winshield sticker.
trainman8119
i have never seen a bus out of chicago with a "C" in the runbox only as the winshield sticker. Yeah, there have been a few, but a very few. I think it was more on the 5300's when the C was added to the roll. With the electronics, though, it should show "C". I guess a minor nuisance these days. After all, they can't get a basic destination sign right !!!!
T8H5307A
The Flyers (9800') and newer had run boxes with rollers that have the whole alphabet (A-Z) and numbers (0-9) for all positions. The older rollers the first postion had the necessary letters for the garage codes and numbers and the other 3 had just 0-9 and X

Which is the model bus I remembered seeing the C in the run box. It was quite a while ago when I saw it. Americanas were still around and doing weekday trips on the 152 to give ou an idea of the time frame.
jajuan
Ask and you shall receive! (although it's not a NABI, but the same applies) Not even close to as much as applies to the beatup 6000s popping up at Kedzie. I'll take a NF of either model any day. I think four-letter words would work just fine with some of the buses that were out there.

Send the 6000's to Chicago, make me happy! You can have all 1050 of them New Flyers at Kedzie. Eat your heart out!!! Let's see how the 1000's hold up when they are 14 years old. I'll be sure to ask you 14 years from now too!

I always thought that was the reason, although most of the older rollers should have been out of service by the time C opened. Photographic proof....The way it should be. Again, is this just something that the CD generated, or can this be done with driver input? If it is just knowing the "trick," then, wouldn't the announcement and display on the inside not match? It involves the "trick". It doesn't affect the inside announcements/display. When you get to the terminal and the clever device cycles the sign it kicks it out and puts the 5 back in. After that you can edit it and are good to the other end!

After 14 years they'd better be on the way to getting phased out for something current as a number of those scrap-heap worthy 6000s should be now, starting with the ones at Kedzie. If you're going to send older models to Kedzie, don't send from the bottom of the pile of that model. Those few I did ride from Chicago are admittedly in better condition from the looks of it. That's where the Flxible comes in handy... you change it to a C once and it will probably stay that way for a long time! I still do it on a New Flyer just to be different. It's worth the extra effort!

I still do it on a New Flyer just to be different. It's worth the extra effort! When garage codes were introduced, originally they were supposed to be just numbers, 1 thru 9. However before the new rollers were added to the run number boxes, it was revised to numbers and letters. Chicago got "5" because it coexisted with Lawndale which had inherited the N from North Ave and 5 (old 52nd) was available.
