jajuan
Another sign the lower service levels are here for the longterm and the 6000s won't be coming back anytime soon despite the posturing at the beginning of the service cuts alluding to possible service restorations if the unions settled with management. I don't remember buses becoming work buses until that model is retired in general.
Busjack
Another sign the lower service levels are here for the longterm and the 6000s won't be coming back anytime soon despite the posturing at the beginning of the service cuts alluding to possible service restorations if the unions settled with management. I don't remember buses becoming work buses until that model is retired in general. Giving this more thought, I would have to agree, at least to the extent that they wouldn't be converting a complete wreck into a work bus, so that probably would have been one of the last to be taken out of regular service in normal times. I would have thought that, given such things as the Fire Dept. bus, that the 5800s, while retired, would have been converted to work buses. I didn't think that once service was cut it was going to be restored, and did think that after 3 months, it would have died down, which it did. Thus, you have to ask at what point does CTA decide either this is permanent or the 6000s are too shot to be worth bringing back, and thus, the expense of maintaining Archer at all and certainly as a storage facility impels CTA to start crushing the buses and "selling" the land to the city to give or sell to a developer, sort of what they did with North and 69th barns. At least a developer would probably be willing to pay a decent price for the land at Archer, as opposed to the other two places.

Combined with the NABIs there, is there any room left?
jajuan
It appears there are Flxs laid up at 77th near Perry. Combined with the NABIs there, is there any room left? Probably not in that Kedzie has at least eight that have been parked in its south lot near the shops for almost the whole time since the cuts went into effect. Also in terms of Busjack's statement that CTA now has to decide at what point the current service structure is permanent now that the riding public has pretty much adjusted to them, I would say they're giving indications that they made that decision from what cta5555 says about a couple of 6000s joining CFD's fleet along with 5858 and the ex4900 they already have. From past practices, CTA buses didn't get converted to CFD buses until after retiring that model from revenue service. I guess the question is will a 6000 or two join the ex5300 at CPD since that's one other use for which a former CTA bus was resurrected? busfan2847
Reported on Chicagotransit Yahoo Group:- "After almost three months, a new bus list has shown up. Very little change, in fact only one bus has changed garages: Nova 6663 moved 74th to 77th. Otherwise all remained where they were - probably a new record in stability! However, 27 6000-series Flxibles were officially written off around late April, signaling that any thoughts of service restoration are now officially dead: 6023, 6024, 6051, 6053, 6062, 6081, 6091, 6098, 6106, 6120, 6127, 6128, 6149, 6163, 6169, 6186, 6191, 6238, 6253, 6254, 6255, 6281, 6293, 6299, 6300, 6304, 6310 That is all... Busjack
You gotta be kidding me. I don't believe that for a second. A poster with a single post with no substantiation tends to reinforce that. Now, if someone had said "look a BusTracker on #67," like the usual member here, I would have bitten.

Busjack
i was on one coming home O.K. Give us the date, approximate time, route (which anyone can give) and if you are a bus fan, fleet number and run number. Update: BTW, if the rest of you want a laugh, look at the post I put under the Sun-Times article "Ex-Obama pastor: 'Obama threw me under the bus' " showing that my mind is in a rut this morning.
