Saw 6971 coming into Chicago to take up a 755 journey  this afternoon.

Checked bustracker and 6965 was also on 755 and 6967 on 851.

The unanswered question at this point is if they are for expansion, or to replace 6900-7. 6902 and 6904 are still out there. Highest number on Webwatch is 6971, which you saw.

6900-07 are still on the board at Heritage. 6965-71 are there (I think 6964 hasn't shown up yet)

Where in the bleep are they keeping them? That garage wasn't that big to begin with, with some buses in the alley.

A slow retirement of the OTR coaches, or spares. There's a need to address overcrowding (still), over the next year. The newer buses would replace the more faded ones, but those that still work will still be in play.

Pace will be acquiring two OTR coaches from the City of DeKalb, according to the January board meeting.

I can confirm that 12401 is still running, it was on 475 today. I’m not sure about 12402 though.

5 years later, the picture in the quote above shows that the bus doesn't have a rear door, and hence is externally similar to 6377-6391 and 6485-6509, and hence OTR, but not motor coach.

On the solicitation page. I wonder who's going to bid? 😁 Since nonnegotiable, I'm sure it is for whatever MCI has. Definitely 45 foot, only question is if it is CRT or CRT LE.

I was wondering what these buses were going to be used for until I realized 6950-6962 are at the 12 year mark and 6963-6971 are almost at the same mark.  Presumed retirement? Still seems like a lot unless there will be more expansion on 55 or somewhere else.

I cracked the specs. and it calls for a minimum of 13 and a maximum of 30. I thouht that Pace said 13 were for replacements. There was talk about people having to stand on the bus, but that was before the last restructuring, but there was also talk about expanding the Old Chicago and Burr Ridge Park and Rides.

The specs. call for a lift under the second window position and a door there, so it is not going to be a CRT LE.

Otherwise, it looks like the usual Pace spec., with that shade of blue paint, decals, side-sized sign on the rear, and wrap, so Pace pretty much ignored APTA recommendations to take a standard bus, and will pay through the nose for a comparatively small contract.

On the May 2026 agenda: Award to MCI for $33 million.  That's over $2.5 million each.

Scratch that.  About here in the May 2026 meeting they explained that the contract is for up to 30 buses, but they are now ordering and paying for 13 at $14 million, The total of $33 million is for 30 buses, but--unlike prior Pace practidce--board approval will be necessary to approve the other buses. The reason is that Pace has to take care of current needs, but does not want to stick the post-September board with an additional obligation.
