Bus1883
I have created this topic for any potential conversations relating to any future maintenance/status of cars and deliveries or retirements, so let’s get started. 2943-44, 3105-06, and 3277-78 is at Skokie Shops. 3451-52 is still in the yard at Skokie thought It would been back on the brown line already following the fire on #3452, however there is video relating to the 2024 rodeo Jamboree somewhere around September with them being spotted inside the shop. I’m not going to point out any active 5000s or recent delivered 7000s as they are in and out of Skokie shops receiving overhauls/being inspected before being sent down to the Blue Line for service. 2200-series 1969-70 Budd Company: 2273-2274 (Retired) 2400-series 1976-78 Beong-Vertol: 2401-2402 (Storage) 2600-series 1981-87 Budd Company: 2613-2614 (Possible Retirement) 2655-2656 (Possible Retirement) 2849-2850 (Possible Retirement) 2893-2898 (Stored for annual Holiday Train) 3067-3068 (Possible Retirement) 3105-3106 (Possible Retirement) 3200-series 1992-94 Morrison-Knudsen: 3351/3447 (Stored) 5000-series 2009-15 Bombardier: 5271-5272 (Long Term Hold) 5599-5600 (Stored as Long Term Hold) 1

Bob65
A heritage 2400 was recently removed from the shops to the scrap yard, I forget the unit number but it’s on Reddit.

No wonder why CTA always run 4 of its heritage 2400s every time they come out for events.

That pair was apart of the 4 car consist, the others had paint issues and other stuff happening. This car was fine until an incident in the yard completely fried it beyond repair. Don’t take my word I’m guessing someone mistakenly coupled it with a pair of 5000s which damaged 2544 electrically?

You are 100% correct, somehow it got electrically couple to a 5000 which never ever should happen and all the electronics got fried in the 2400. 1

NovaBusFan
What happened to 5271-5272? They’ve been LTH for too long there’s no point of that whatever the issue is Skokie Shops is not trying to fix them, it’s time for them to come back into service

Could those cars be on LTH for legal issues such as a lawsuit or other legal or judicial matter involving these cars?
Bus1883
Almost forgot to mention I’ve seen some night time activity last night around 10 pm going on at Skokie shops as I saw some employees out in the yard and two sets of 2600s with one being pulled by the shuttle wagon and with two to four cars unmated by the shop door awaiting disposal. Both sets had their yellow indicator lights on, looks like those have just arrived in preparation for scrapping.
Bus1883
2200-series: Two cars have made a comeback to become a member of the heritage fleet, which will soon become limited to only ten cars. Two 2600s were swapped in exchange of those for scrap. Rode by on the yellow line and saw 2232 on a flatbed in the entrance on the west end of the shop awaiting to be unloaded. 2231 is parked in the yard awaiting inspection and maintenance. Credits to confirmed information on a post on Facebook. The locker room cars can now be scrapped 2600-series storage: 2607-08, 2789-90 and more cars visible. Can’t see the numbers 5000-series storage: 5271-5272: unit 5272 will soon be sent to Delaware for repairs as it sustained significant body damage in a incident, the amount is not to exceed more than $591,704.00. Pretty soon yes someone in Facebook group mentioned a set will somewhat become placeholders. Sucks that they want the heritage fleet only limited to 10 high performance family cars. Why not have the 2 2200s, 4 2400s, 4 2600s and potentially 4 3200s?

Why don't you donate enough money to cover that? Last I heard, CTA had like a $500 million deficit and if not bailed out by the taxpayers will have to cut service 40% next year. But you think its main mission is running a museum, not transporting people. Maybe it can also acquire Thomas the Tank Engine from IRM. Did you volunteer there? In fact, cars like 4271-4272 were rebuilt by volunteers. Are you willing to go to the Shops on your day off to overhaul the cars you listed? For instance, the 2200s should be preserved with the original leatherette seats, not the dirty fiberglass shells. That's why.
Busjack Posted yesterday at 02:38 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 02:38 AM BTW, I wasn't being facetious or overly caustic with the above. [Former?] Members @pace2322 and @CTA5750 were responsible for saving buses for CHBM until it went defunct; 9799 and RTA 8006 are at IRM courtesy of CHBM and those members' efforts. As for other CTA historical efforts, there were 2007-2008, repainted in [I think ugly] SSRT livery and renumbered 1892-1992, which eventually became a sculpture at Skokie Shops, and chicago-l.org says were then sold to IRM for parts. In 2017 CTA reacquired 4 PCC cars, and later restored some 2400s, but that's about the extent of it.
