Chicago Garage has AM extras on routes 22, 135, and 156, and PM extras on the 11 and 22. However, if a problem occurs on another route, supervisors will often take those three-track extras and divert them to cover a gap (such as happened on the 136 on Friday). Nothing is specifically scheduled to operate on the 136, but if a regular run breaks down, the three-track extras are popular candidates to be diverted.

That should answer your question. All you have to do is scroll up.

As for the one that asked about Archer, that garage is no longer operating any north-side routes during the morning rush hour.

Any Chicago Garage run in the 100 series would be a three-track extra. North Park runs in the 821 through 900 range are three-track extras. North Park's morning extras operate on various routes, including the 11, 135, 147, 148, and 156. PM extras operate on the 147 and 148.

Has anyone actually seen a Nova or a Flxible on routes 22, 135, and 156. This would be kind've a weird sight since we're all used to the TMCs, New Flyers, and Nabis operating on these routes.

Just a few observations from around town today:

Following up on Optima comments (regarding route 28) from another post, I saw an Optima on the 28, northbound on Lake Park in Hyde Park today around 3:45 pm. Later I saw an Optima on the x28 at 14th and Lake Shore Drive southbound around 7:30 pm. From what I could see, it didn't appear to be too crowded though, at least no standees.

Around 7:40pm at Congress and Michigan (in the loop), 1177 (of the 7 route) getting hooked up for a tow back to Kedzie.

While riding a tired old 4400 series on the 44 Wallace-Racine, I saw a New Flyer on Canal and Archer with the Signage reading Chicago Garage. Is 74th getting New Flyers

No, 74th Garage is not getting New Flyers next. As posted on other topics, 103rd Garage will be next to recieve them because of their problem with old buses that constantly break down. You can also count the Nabis in.

Add this one to the strange bus sightings column:

Flxible 5478 on a 151.

The bus in question is supposedly assigned to Chicago Garage, and the run was out of North Park.

Are you sure it was a run out of North Park, because there is a possibility of it being a Belmont run out of Kedzie. But then again what would 5478 (a Chicago Garage bus) be doing at Kedzie? Also, was the bus heading to either Clark/Devon or Belmont? Or was it heading south to Union Station?

I assume it was a run out of North Park, because the run number prefix was "P," and the run number was 425, which would be a run number in the 151 series for North Park.

The destination sign said "Clark/Devon," but the bus was actually heading southbound through Lincoln Park.

It was probably just on loan to North Park for the day or so.

I saw the same bus on the 151 northbound at South Water at 7:30 pm.

Another interesting North Park sighting today was 6027 northbound on Western at Peterson on the 49B. This was at 2:00 pm and was signed to Howard. The bus displayed a North Park run number in the box. So, it appears that they are getting some Flxibles...for whatever reason. Maybe the older Flxibles are in better shape than some of the TMC's and that overload from Chicago is finding a way to North Park, even if it is though the back door of 103rd Street, or like you said, it could just be a temporary (loaner) thing.

My suspicion is that it's a temporary loaner. A few bus transfers (such as sending 20 Flxibles to 103rd) were ordered at the start of the pick. However, I'm not sure how long it takes to actually get those buses moved. 103rd was supposed to give up some TMCs to North Park (I gather, at this point, there is no desire in introducing the 5300 as a "new type" at any garage for maintenance purposes). If there was any delay at all in getting the buses transferred (I don't know exactly what all has to happen to get a bus moved, or how long it's supposed to take), it's possible that North Park was short for a day, and Chicago had an extra bus or two available, so they sent it up there.

Bus 6027 is out of Forest Glen, so that's not that far of a deadhead, and they probably have a spare bus or two up there.

This is all just my speculation, however. With North Park finally starting to receive new buses, I can't imagine why they'd want to introduce a new (old) type to the fleet, only to have it get retired in a few months.

Being in the neighborhood, I scoped out North Park late this afternoon. There seem to be a fair number of loaners there: I'd guess maybe a dozen 6000s from Forest Glen and six or seven 5300s from Chicago Avenue.

What caught my attention is that they seem to be assigned in numerical clusters: 6020s & low 6030s. I also spotted 5462, 5473, and 5492. (Someone recently lamented the "passing" of 5492 in a different thread. Whoever it was, cheer up, it's still alive and kicking, on loan to North Park). Somebody else on the board spotted 5478 a few days ago, too.

I'm thinking that they might be medium or long-term loans rather than day loans. Otherwise, I'm wondering why anyone would have gone to the trouble to assign them in numerical groups.

Also, I was surprised not to see any condemned RTSs along the west fence at North Park (which is where their "parts buses" have normally been stored. Were they already dispatched to the boneyard because of shortage of space?

Wow, I can't believe 5473 is now at North Park. And to think I rode on that bus earlier this year on the X54 Cicero Express. By the way, will the 5300s and 6000s be added to North Park's assigned buses on the garages page?

Also, do you have any information on which routes these Flxibles were operating for North Park? I would appreciate it.

As I said, I believe they're officially loaners, so I doubt that there would be any reason to make changes to the assignments page. Of course, I can't presume to speak for Kevin or anyone else.

Most of the Flxibles I spotted were still at the yard except for a couple of 6020s heading empty east on Foster with signs reading "DOWNTOWN" (beginning of the evening rush hour), and 5473 actually signed for the 136. (Yes, the electonic sign was working).

If you're planning to "camp out", just remember that the odds of your actually catching a "North Park Flxible" are very slim. Again, I have no idea how long they'll remain at North Park. Maybe a week? A month? Who knows?

That was me who mourned the "passing" of #5492 (that is my favorite bus). If YOUR favorite bus "died", i'm sure you'd be upset too, and I did cheer up since #5492 is still running for NP. Anyway, I saw (from my house) #603X (I could tell that last number) on Diversey just two hours ago. It had a sign saying it was going to the Logan Square Blue line station probably that is one of the last Diversey runs of the night (the route is not running right now), but I have no idea why a 6000 would be running on Diversey at 11pm...werid.

Since Chicago Garage has no loans of 6000 Flxibles, than this sighting must have been a fill in run by Forest Glen. Or could Chicago be recieving 6000s?

So #5473 was the only one running out of North Park yesterday. What about the other few 5300s?

Well around 7:00 a.m. today I saw the most unusual thing. First, when a Nova Bus appeared on the 80 route I decided not to get on it to kill some time, and it was also crowded with 65602671058715701571805 students from my high school. Then soon after that bus, number 7568 comes along. The destination sign said 'NOT IN SERVICE', but it stopped and picked up some passengers at my stop anyway. The bus was completely empty, which is strange because the following bus had a gazillion kids on it too.

So anyway...

I noticed that the bus didn't name any stops or said the route. So I am guessing this bus driver was doing this for the hell of it. Amirite? ...D:

Well, it might help if you actually said where you were.
