BusHunter
Do you think that before the hybrid artics are sent in there will be a prototype or not (because this is a piggyback order that CTA would have to obey the original contract guidelines)? Busjack
Well, as indicated on the home page, here is the link to the CTA Press Release announcing the lease. I would have thought that the actual exercise would have required board approval, but obviously the December motion was not posted, just press interpretations. Also, saying that the option expired in January apparently didn't make it so. On the trivia beat, what is the source of the information that they are 600-749? Apparently, those of you betting on hybrid numbering continuity rather than articulated won.

Also, saying that the option expired in January apparently didn't make it so. On the trivia beat, what is the source of the information that they are 600-749? Apparently, those of you betting on hybrid numbering continuity rather than articulated won. I was also looking at the PDF of Ron Huberman's presentation, and it stated that the hybrid arctics would be replacing 200 of the oldest buses remaining when the deliveries start in August. So given Busjack's post that we are 20 buses into Option 3 of the 1000s if we do indeed happen to be up to at least 1649 at NP as mentioned in another post, that would mean that a large portion of the 6000s might indeed be retired. That is if CTA doesn't go after the 5800s first. I'm making this speculation from what Huberman stated about wanting to replace the CTA's oldest buses as soon as possible to improve customer satisfaction and service and therefore the strong suggestion that they just might immediately move ahead with Option 4 after the completion of Option 3. I for one don't believe how anybody can find out the buses numbers this soon.
trainman8119
That is why I am questioning what is said on the front and roster pages. I for one don't believe how anybody can find out the buses numbers this soon. When an order is placed, it is assigned numbers so that it can be referenced to in terms of series. Since this has been ongoing for awhile now, I would think that CTA insiders would know what numbers these buses would be assigned. If indeed this is how these buses are numbered, I will feel vindicated on my suspicion on how they would be numbered (hybrids with a 3 digit number). Well you can feel vindicated since Kevin has added a roster page for the new hybrid arctics to reflect the numbers assigned to the series. They will be 600-series using the numbers 600-749. They will be 600-series using the numbers 600-749.The second lesson in logic today. The roster page was up when I posted the question about the source of that tidbit. That doesn't mean that the question has been answered. To use an analogy (again sometimes logically shaky, and buslover didn't like one of my wrestling examples): the writers want you to think Rey Mysterio will be out of action because Big Show worked him over. However, as anyone familiar with how those plots work, Big Show worked him over because they needed a cover for Rey being out for surgery on a preexisting injury. I can accept trainman's explanation at a distance that you have to tell the manufacturer in advance. I can also accept his statement elsewhere that if someone could be fired for being found leaking information that the CTA did not authorize to be released, that could be a justification for not disclosing everything. However, one must remember that some publication said that the next series of L cars was going to be 1000, despite the inconsistency with the bus numbers, and despite it being announced at a board meeting that it will be 5000, some artist at the CTA still thinks one of the cars will be 1017 (page 34 of the pdf). While I can say "apparently," nobody gets vindicated at least until August, in the absence of other proof. I also foresee posts in August on "where are the 600s?" On this point I will say this, while there is a possibility that the series numbers used on the roster page may change between now and August, as the administrator of the forum I don't believe Kevin would post imformation just for the heck of it without having a somewhat reliable source. As far as I've been a member of the forum, I've yet to see him give information without doing some type of research into it to back up the information he gives. I'm not saying he can't make mistakes like the rest of us, but he has been responsible in checking into what information he does give us. sw4400
Is this just a generic computer image of the Hybrid Articulateds? Or is this what they will look like? http://kjo84.typepad.com/cta_tattler/
Busjack
Taken from the CTA Press Release, and basically the one in the President's Report with the blue of the lake removed. As previously noted, it is unlikely that it operates on water. BTW, your choices are not mutually exclusive.

Does that sound more mutually exclusive? <_<

I suppose that's why Huberman put that picture in the report.
