twyztdmynd
New issue of Bus Ride came today. Nice cover of New Flyer Xcelsior... Seems funny that New Flyer releases new model (which looks pretty slick) and rumors of closure flying around. No mention of 'downsizing' at all. http://www.busride.com/article.asp?IndexID=1099 P.S. Trekkie Geeks... isn't the Excelsior the bum ship in Search for Spock ??? Bad Kharma .... Bad Kharma

Bad Kharma Excelsior wasn't bum until Scotty tinkered around with its engine to keep it from stopping Enterprise. It's engine was dubbed a failure after Scotty's tinkering. (His tinkering was ignored as causing that failure when it showed up again in later movies). As for the topic at hand, rolling out a new model goes against the logic of those closure rumors. Plus I wouldn't read too much into the name unless someone close by their plants with a grudge against new bus models commits sabotage a la Montgomery Scott. But big difference between a fictional starship and a transit bus that does exist.

I wonder what is the real world difference in prices between the Xcelsior and the "standard" LF40. Gene King
jajuan
Just a joke... a poor attempt a lightening the situation... I know it was. I just forgot to put a happy face emoticon next to my Scotty reference. Plus I wanted to get as much of my own post on topic so we wouldn't get chastised by topic police. sw4400
"The more difficult the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain!" Thats classic Mr. Scotty for ya! OT Here's a classic 'Mr. Scott' scene from the 1966 "Star Trek" series episode... 'The Trouble With Tribbles' modified into a transit bus skit... Klingon Officer: We like the NABI Buses... we certainly do!.... Those sagging, old rust-buckets are designed like garbage scowls. Half the country knows it, that's why they learned to speak Klingonese! Mr. Scott: Laddie... don't you think you should.... rephrase that? Klingon Officer: You're right... I should. I didn't mean to say that the NABI's should be hauling garbage.... I meant to say that they should be hauled away as garbage!!! The rest you know if you've seen this episode of "Star Trek". jajuan
With this new administration I wont hold my breath. Only been eight weeks, so I wouldn't be predicting doom and gloom just yet. There's no magic wand out there regardless of your political views of how things get fixed. Besides political discussions are best saved for the political forums. As noted in MVTARider's post, the evidence speaks against New Flyer's going anywhere any time soon.

As noted in MVTARider's post, the evidence speaks against New Flyer's going anywhere any time soon. I don't think New Flyer is going anywhere. It seems majority of the TAs use New Flyers and Gilligs, anyways. New Flyer wouldn't pull a Nova and closeup US operations and focus only in Canada, but look at now, Novabus is coming back to the US! I hope this economic downturn/recession in hurts Gillig because I still despise them.
rideonrulez
I hope this economic downturn/recession in hurts Gillig because I still despise them. Why would you say that? Gillig as of now makes better quality buses then Orion and NABI. Also that would in turn mean that there would be less to choose from in a market that is already slim. Your also talking about people losing there jobs at the Gillig plant too. If it was'nt for Gillig, half of these small transit/shuttle operations in this country would be operating cutaways since Gilligs are affordable heavy duty buses. Busjack
Also Hertz would Hurtz (Avis, too). And there wouldn't be much for the smaller markets.
