Purple Line Express trains are not express at all in the northbound direction for today's PM rush service. Trains are sharing tracks with northbound Red Line trains north of Sheridan and making all local Red Line stops from Sheridan to Howard due to a "track condition" situation at Sheridan. If the problem is at Sheridan, I don't see why Purple Line trains can't get back on the express tracks using one of the numerous interlockings that are north of the Wilson station. There's one in fact leading from the local tracks back to the express tracks just beyond the Berwyn station for example.

Rail Line(s) Affected: Pink

Level Of Service Interruption: Service Partially Suspended

Information: Pink Line service has been temporarily suspended between Polk and the Loop due to an unauthorized person on the tracks near Morgan.

As a result, trains are operating in one section:

  • Between 54th/Cermak and Polk, and then to Racine (Blue Line), only, for direct connections to Blue Line train service to/from downtown.

Using connecting Blue Line service:

For service to downtown from Pink Line stations between 54th/Cermak and Polk, take a Pink Line train toward the Loop and stay on board until the train reaches Racine on the Blue Line, where you can transfer to continuing Blue Line service into downtown on the same platform.

For service from downtown to Pink Line stations between Polk and 54th/Cermak, take a Blue Line train toward Forest Park to Racine and transfer to a Pink Line train toward 54th/Cermak from the same platform.

Alternate Service: #9 Ashland, #49 Western, and #60 Blue Island-26th, including in combination with other 'L' services, may also be good alternatives.

If you take a bus to/from the Pink Line, you may also be able to connect to the same bus from stations along the Blue Line's Forest Park branch or Green Line along Lake Street.

I see that @sw4400 was up early enough to beat me to mention the the Pink and Green Lines being under a service disruption due to another clown spotted on the tracks. I heard about this while traveling to work this morning. They apparently spotted the guy walking the tracks between Morgan and Carpenter. The current status as 6 a.m. is still as listed above while police try and talk this guy off the tracks.

DNAinfo reporting that the man ran down the tracks for two miles before they cornered him and he threatened to jump.

Yeah Channel 7 news reported that they got him down and in custody with Pink and Green Line service restored by 8 a.m. From the info they had at the time, he was first spotted on the tracks at about 2 this morning.

Erin Ivory (formerly McElroy) is all over this one. Unfortunately someone here isn't, causing massive confusion on the south side. Sounds like another "medical emergency," i.e. now a person wedged between the tracks and platform. That's all you'll be getting from me.

Update; WGN said CTA Tweet said it was a "signal problem," which also indicates that Twitter is archiving these.
