I know you're not indicating directly that 800s operate usually on weekends, but your sighting is another piece of evidence that supports the idea of it being easier to spot an 800 on a weekend. Because I have personally never seen a 800 on a weekday, but a few times during the weekend (#53 Pulaski and #157 Streeterville).

Kinda funny that they wont operate on the CTA's longest routes #49 or X49, because I never seen them on it and also at Midway Station.

I think you mean "CNG" (Compressed Natural Gas), and no, they are diesels. The box on top is the air conditioner. CNGs have a much, much larger box on the roof (larger than the hybrids, even). Here is an example.

Do you hang around Archer Avenue on weekdays? Kevin pointed out that the 800s are regularly on Archer; what I saw may indicate that it's easier to spot an 800 on the 62 than on the 53 or 157. For all I know, there could have been four in a row on a weekday compared to the two I saw on Sunday. I've seen them on Pulaski on weekdays, too.

Oh sorry. Now that you mention it, I saw a 800 heading west on Madison in downtown on a Saturday in August. It must've been a #124 since I could only tell from my distance that the route was a three digit one. I apoligize for any misunderstanding.

How can they look better...they are the same thing...except maybe they shine more cause they are newer. Also, with that "transit chicago" nonsense stenciled over the back windows, I think they acutally look less attractive and less appealing. Looks a little bit cheap to me.

I am surprised they didn't stencil "due to the lack of state funding" along the sides of all the new buses !!!!

The 900s do look a little bit better than the 800s, but wouldn't you think Trainman could get offended by something such as "shut up". You could tell Trainman he's wrong or you can tell him that he's wrong in an impolite manner. Your choice. :mellow:

After all this time and a few sightings I finally rode a 900 New Flyer on #12 Roosevelt from State to Canal yesterday. The sound of the bus reminded me of the Marmon Herrington ETBs which used to run that route years ago. :)

Yeah, I really enjoyed riding this bus too. When I rode it I noticed it was very clean ( freaky clean) looked as if someone was using "Armor All" on it. It had some really glossy surfaces. This was in Winter when the floors were pretty salty inside the buses. Then it had one of those protective shields on it too. At that time it seemed to have everything going for it. It totally blew me away. Someone needs to tell the Mayor he's got the wrong bus for his press conferences. This reminds me of the 1990's when I used to ride bus #5750 and #5751. Someone at Archer was really doing a good job with these buses. They were "armor alled" very frequently, were spotless clean and the windows were not etched. This was during the etching frenzy that was going on there and at FG most noticeably. The bus was mostly ran on the #162 or some other Stevenson express service most likely to keep the graffiti artists to a minimum. In my opinion they were the best two #5300's that ever existed.
