biffalow
Hi all. I was on the 82 Kimball\Homan yesterday and I heard that on Sunday June 14th the 82 will start going to Lincolnwood Town Center. My friend also told me that the 146 will have extended hours going to the Museum Campus starting on the 14th. Do anybody have any additional info on this topic? I heard this as a regular bus announcement while I was on the 82. Lol it kept repeating it to I guess drive the message home. If its on CleverDevices then I guess we have to wait to the board meeting tomorrow to see if this is true or not.

It actually would be a good improvement of service to those parts without worrying about the time limits of the 96 or weekend limits of the 11 when the 96 isn't operating. Sure there are the 49 and 49B to the 290, but you're getting a streamlined trip if you live near route 82 as I do.

Busjack
The meeting agenda has an item "To approve an ordinance authorizing modifications to bus routes as an experiment up to 180 days" No Customer Alert yet, but Mr. CTA wouldn't lie. So there may be something to this. Also looks like, from that agenda, that 200 is going to bite the dust.

Busjack
The changes are located on each routes online current alert.Right you are, with respect to 82 and 146. Also, the Press Release indicates some other changes, although those weren't mentioned. Maybe they weren't so extensive as to require an experiment. Somewhat surprising, but seemingly making sense, are the combination of 55A and 55N to 55W, and 38 and 157. It also appears that the JARC extension of 67 to Ford City is being made now, but the others weren't mentioned. Update: Apparently instituting the 55W eliminates service on Austin and Narragansett south of 59th. However, I suppose those riders can walk to the 63W. See the Strategic Planning Report. Also, combining Streeterville-Taylor puts number 38 back into the recycling scrapheap of numbers.

Apparently what biff's friend was actually referring to was the increase of service on route 130. Yeah, the 146 has longer service hours to the Museum Campus starting Sunday, as well as more frequent service on the 87 on Sundays, the extension of the 82, the 67 no longer going to 63rd/Kedzie, the 54A adding two more evening trips, and the 206 running every 20 minutes instead of 15. But the BIG changes comes in September. Im glad my bus, the 53A, will have later service on weekends.

The burning question, and many of us at North Park are wondering, will the 82 still loop through the Devon/Kedzie terminal and continue from there to Lincolnwood, and if so by which routing...or will it simply continue north on McCormick? We still make reliefs on the 155 on weekdays, and also this may displace customers into having to walk to the terminal unless the routing is via Devon/Kedzie terminal. Haven't seen anything on this. According to the bus alert for the 82, not during the hours given for the buses to serve Lincolnwood Town Center, which will be approximately 9:25am-9:30pm Mondays-Saturdays and 10:25am-7:10pm Sundays/holidays. The alert says that the buses will go to Devon/Kedzie terminal before and after the mall service hours. I also see that the 18 will get an experimental restoration of midday weekday service during the six month time frame. The merging of 157 and 38 makes sense with the noted overlap of the two on Canal and Clinton Streets. I also see that the 67 extension to Ford City Mall that many of us proposed in theory and saw picked up by the RTA happens this Sunday as well, in addition to late evening trips ending at 71st/Pulaski instead of 63rd/Kedzie as mentioned above. I read the same regarding the 82 Devon-Kedzie terminal operation hours. It does not however make sense to me that the Devon-Kedzie terminal would not be utilized during all hours of operation as transfers between the 155 and 96 would be inconvenient. I think the routing should be Devon-Kedzie- Touhy.

You also have the 11 that serves the transit hub anyway.

That may be a nice summer walk regarding the 96 and 11 but I would not want to venture those walks and transfers over the open area bridge during the cold/snow winter months. Busjack
In reagards to the new 55W, will it be a loop route operating clockwise or counterclockwise?Page 10 of the Strategic Planning Report cited above says Austin-59-Naragansett. So, clockwise. Oh by the way, Proper Justification to the new 55W Coincidence? After all, the derailment was Wed. night. The meeting was in the morning. The way it's worded leaves the impression that the buses will keep straight during mall hours. However it's still possible that they'll serve the terminal. It doesn't seem likely but it's still possible. The 96 wouldn't be a justification of that routing as brought up by sht6131 since the connection to the 96 can be made in the mall. However the 155 would.
Busjack
... But the BIG changes comes in September. ...I guess I got confused in that the experiments in the Press Release, according to the Release, start Sept. 6,* while the ones in the Alerts are effective June 14. Biffalo did make that distinction. I still don't understand how the June ones can be made without apparent board action. But it appears that the alerts going up on the same day as a board meeting was also coincidence. Sort of like what was discussed with DSorrell, above. With regard to 82, I guess us outsiders will have to wait for the new schedule to be posted. I'm surprised that the NP drivers were not informed about what was happening on a connecting route, but I guess it has been a while since NP operated 82. _____ *The exception being 130, which goes into effect June 14, confusing me more. Yes I misread the press release on that part too. jajuan
Did a quick check of the CTA site and the 82 schedule hasn't been updated yet. So the question of the buses go to the Devon/Kedzie terminal during Lincolnwood mall hours can't be answered that way. Bustracker still show the line heading to the terminal, but it could be from the buses heading there before the mall opened because the stop is now displaying a no arrival times message. The buses are indicated are shown on the map serving the mall though because 1691 is on layover there as I write this. Also the destination signs must not have been updated yet because the northbound stops on the Tracker still indicate '82 to Devon/Kedzie' when you click one on the map even though the lines at least are drawn in showing the route going to the mall. UPDATE: The buses don't serve the terminal during mall hours. Bustracker showed 1691 head SB keeping straight past Devon and 1720 NB keeping straight when it approached and passed Devon. I observed as you did. I saw NB & SB shoot past the Devon terminal which in my opinion is a inconvenience for 155 transfers. Unless they surveyed that not many will be inconvenienced which I Doubt. RIPTA42
It's only a 700 foot walk from Devon & McCormick to the terminal, and at most times of the day, walking is faster than the bus' travel time between McCormick and Kedzie.
