Roach Probably of little importance, but with this and Pace 2010, any reason why the new equipment is passing through Omaha?

Roach I like the recessed tail lamps look. I was in Milwaukee today/sat. for the National Train Show at Frontier Center. Saw some New Flyer 4500s, nothing really worthy of a photograph though. geneking7320
I was in Milwaukee from Sunday night to Tuesday afternoon. I saw a bus eastbound on Wisconsin at Plankington but unfortunately I was driving and couldn't take a picture. :(
Bryce_Transit
That is not correct. The first series of 1996-1997 D40LFs (4000-4145) and 1998 D30LFs (4200-4208) were delivered in the green stripe scheme. The 2000 D40LFs (4300-4389) were the first new buses delivered with the current livery. As I noted earlier, the current paint was introduced in winter 1999-2000, after MCTS received the "America's Best" award from APTA.

mkebusfan88
Saw bus 5008 this morning on Route 10. The bus originally had the old MCTS color scheme but it was repainted with the new one found on all the new 5100's. I'm guessing MCTS is gonna start repainting older buses now. That's fine with me, I love the new colors! Looks a lot better

As for the other buses There is no time line on if they will be repainted. I would hope they would. The 4300's and 4400's and some 4600's have half the paint missing and they look bad. Joe I'm not so concerned about the 4300s and the 4400s, as those are probably next on the chopping block, but the 4600s on up should get the new scheme. I've always loved that MCTS is a model for fleet uniformity, and having two paint schemes would ruin that a bit.
rmadisonwi
Given that the 4000s and 4100s are just now being retired, the 4300s/4400s should still have 4-5 years left. They will definitely need a new paint job to last them the rest of their days. They really do look terrible with the peeling paint.
Archon
UPDATE ON New color scheme Seems that the 4800's and the 4700's are also going to get the new paint scheme. I saw 4748 in the garage tonight and it had been painted with the new colors.

artthouwill
I love the paint scheme (livery). It would be nice if someone could come up with something bold for CTA in Chicago. I kind of wish they could go back to green as well.
CURRENTZ_09
MCTS is offically repainting the fleet, just saw 4742 run downtown in the new paint scheme and some of the 5000-series doing the new fleet one the northside, usually running on the 35-35th street and the 30-sherman-wisconsin plus they just released images for the packer bus for the packers making it to the superbowl, also the 2011 transit guide is out and mcts seems to be promoting the new clean diesel buses they got in 2010 and continuing in 2011 to replace the aging but will be missed 4000-4100-4200 series fleet, sad to see them go but good to see what the future brings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mkebusfan88
Saw bus 4304 repainted with the new color scheme today. Hopefully an indication that the whole fleet is being repainted! Especially the 4300's and 4400's whose paint is fading that are/were housed at Fiebrantz

I AGREE I WOULD THINK THAT THE 4300 WOULD PHASE OUT IN 2012-2013 AND THE 4400 WOULD BE PHASED NOT LATER THAN 2015 BUT LETS SEE IF NEW FLYER QUALITY STANDS THE TEST OF TIME
busfan2
I AGREE I WOULD THINK THAT THE 4300 WOULD PHASE OUT IN 2012-2013 AND THE 4400 WOULD BE PHASED NOT LATER THAN 2015 BUT LETS SEE IF NEW FLYER QUALITY STANDS THE TEST OF TIME As I think about this more I remember when the 4300s came in 2000 with the paint scheme that is currently being phased out MCTS repainted the 4000s, 4100s, 4200s and some of the Orion 3700s and 3800s which were 10 years old at the time. The 3700s and 3800s were completely phased out in 2004 I believe. That would make them 14 years old. The 4000s we are still seeing are about 14 or 15 years old and I think they were originally scheduled to be replaced in 2008 at 12 years old. I think we will see the 4300s for another 3 or 4 years. To bad there are budget cuts every year, I'm of the belief it is affecting the quality of the buses. I never remember seeing many buses that look old. So you see why i would give the 4300-series the 2012-2013 retirement but the 4400-series could last until mid to late decade as they are aging gracefully but the 4300-series has aged hard over the past 2 years. the 4000-4100-4200 series actually aged gracefully and by seeing some continue to run until the 5200-series arrive later this summer-early fall is not a surprise to me . MCTS really took care of that fleet and shows that with the right care, they can last longer. Now that rumors are flowing that 4302 is repainted, it should be no time before the whole fleet gets a repaint but lets hope this one sticks around instead of a quick change because of a new fleet. MCTSfan_90
So far, 16 of them (4304, 4700, 4704, 4706, 4713, 4730, 4748, 4807, 4901, 4903, 4910, 4913, 5001, 5003, 5005, & 5008) are repainted, unless there are more that are being worked on or some I may have missed. I think they REALLY need to work on a lot of those 4300s & 4400s because they are getting worse by the minute.
