sw4400
Couple of notes on this derailment near Cicero(Blue) on 4/10/14... The tire that caused the derailment came from a Semi-Tractor Trailer on the Eisenhower, according to CBS 2. According to WGN's 9p broadcast, the passengers self-evacuated the train shortly after the derailment, before power was even cut(I don't see that on their story, but I did hear it mentioned). If true... Do these passengers have some death wish? There's 600 volts going through the third rails on those tracks! One slip and fall or accidental contact and it's either ZAP! and death or ZAP! and lawsuit. Will the Rail Operator receive a reprimand if he/she couldn't keep the passengers on the train until CTA cut power? Personally, I don't think there's a whole hell of a lot he/she could do to keep the passengers at bay, but I don't know what CTA's policy regarding emergencies like this for Rail Operators until the power is turned off. Are they required to keep the passengers on the train or face some disciplinary action if they are unable to? Personally, I wouldn't side with the CTA if that is the case, as if someone is that stupid to essentially walk a 600 volt tightrope, that the CTA is not responsible, nor is that Operator of the train. I think a similar incident took place in either 2005 or 2006, but it happened on the MDC subway branch. Ask BusHunter. I think he has a video of it. artthouwill
What about the Green Line? Won't it be affected since it serves the Lake and Wabash sides of the Loop? It looks like the track maintenance is being done on the Wells and Van Buren portions of the Loop Elevated, specifically the inner tracks where the Orange and Pink would normally operate. Therefore the Green Line is not affected.

I think the last time that was used was for the Brown Line Loop Shuttle during the Wells St bridge reconstruction. Also the Pink Line essentially has the station order of the Brown Line.
