Red Line Service to 95th

After Fullerton, 95th-bound trains will stop at the following stations:

• Armitage
• Sedgwick
• Chicago
• Merchandise Mart
• Clark/Lake
• State/Lake
• Randolph/Wabash
• Madison/Wabash
• Adams/Wabash
• Roosevelt

Then trains will stop at Cermak-Chinatown and make all stops to 95th.

Red Line Service to Howard

After stopping at Cermak-Chinatown, Howard-bound trains will make stops at the above listed Elevated stations in reverse order to Armitage, then make all stops from Fullerton to Howard.

Service Interruption Update: Service has resumed with Significant Delays still occurring.

Rail Line(s) Affected: Red

Service Interruption Severity: Howard-bound trains will not stop at Wilson, Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale or Granville stations.

• For service to these stations, take a Howard-bound train to Loyola and transfer to a 95th-bound train.
• For service from these stations, take a 95th-bound train to Sheridan and transfer to a Howard-bound train.

Note: At Sheridan, Howard-bound trains will stop at their normal platform, but board/exit trains on the outer tracks instead of the inner tracks.

This is due to track and signal improvements on the Red Line.

Service Interruption Severity: Service Suspended between Ashland/63rd and Garfield stations.

Alternate Service: Shuttle Bus Service will replace rail service during regular rail hours only. Trains will operate between Harlem/Lake and Cottage Grove only. Connect between Green Line trains and Shuttle Buses at the Garfield station.

This is due to track improvements to improve rail service along the Green Line.

***Red Line South Track Renewal Project Announcement***

In approx. one month from now, service on the Red Line will be stopped for five months south of Roosevelt. This is a reminder of how the reroute of rail service and Bus Shuttle service will work:

-Free Shuttle Buses with 24-hr. service from 69th, 79th, 87th and 95th/Dan Ryan stations on the Red Line.

-Free rail entry for Shuttle Bus riders at Garfield on the Green Line.

-50 cent discounted bus rides on many South Side bus routes.

-24-hr. Red Line service as far south as 63rd St. via Green Line tracks between Roosevelt and Ashland/63rd

-Expanded bus service on existing routes.

-Metra Service on the Metra Electric Line and Metra Rock Island can be used as alternates. The Metra Electric Line runs to the east of the Red Line and transports passengers to the Van Buren station and Millennium station. The Rock Island Line runs to the west of the Red Line and transports passengers to the LaSalle St. station Downtown.

-There will be a joint fare product sold through the existing CTA Retail Network(Jewel, Walgreens, etc...) in the vicinity of the Red Line. This prepackaged fare product will contain a CTA or CTA/PACE 5-Day Pass and a Metra 10-Ride Ticket. The CTA will issue the 5-Day Pass to be sold with Metra Zone B or Metra Zone C 10-Ride Tickets. The price for the combined tickets will be $52 for Zone B and $64 for Zone C.

-CTA and PACE will issue a 5-Day Pass to be sold with Metra Zone D 10-Ride Tickets. The price for the combined fare product will be $74.

Metra Zone Layout:

-Zone B: 63rd St., 75th St. and 79th on the Metra Electric Line and Gresham on the Metra Rock Island Line.

-Zone C: 87th St. and 95th St. on the Metra Electric Line and 95th(Beverly Branch) and 95th(Main Line) on the Metra Rock Island Line. Most of the B and C Zone stops correspond with a Red Line stop and are also located along east-west routes that also serve the Red Line (the exception being the 75th St. station as the CTA doesn't have a 75th St. stop, but it is the closest stop to the 69th St. station.

-Zone D: Harvey on the Metra Electric Line and Blue Island/Vermont St. on the Rock Island. These stations serve as transfer points between Metra trains and PACE buses that operate nearby.

Flag Stops:

-To further assist Red Line riders, Metra will change Flag Stops to Regular Stops at five Metra Electric stations located in proximity to the Red Line for two inbound trains: Train 100 and 102 during the weekday morning rush hour and for two outbound trains: Train 227 and 241 in the weekday evening rush hour. The stations are 63rd St., 75th St.(Grand Crossing), 79th St.(Chatham), 87th St.(Woodruff) and 95th St.(Chicago State University). Trains will automatically stop at Regular Stops but will only stop at Flag Stops when passengers are visible from the platform or when passengers on the train inform a crew member they want to get off. Additionally, several Saturday trains will also make Regular Stops instead of Flag Stops at these five stations. Those trains are Train 100, 102, 210, 227, 233, 235 and 241. For all other trains, those stations are either Regular Stops or Flag Stops. Flag Stops are indicated with and "F" next to the departure time.

Service Interruption Severity: Service Suspended in the Loop.

-Brown Line trains will operate between Kimball and Merchandise Mart between 4a and 8p weekdays. After 8p and on weekends, trains will operate between Kimball and Chicago only. During weekday rush periods, some trains will operate to/from Downtown via the State St. Subway(Red). The southbound trains will be marked with a destination sign marked "Roosevelt" on a red background, northbound trains will have the normal "Kimball" destination signs on a brown background. They will make all Brown Line stops between Kimball and Fullerton and all Red Line stops between Fullerton and Roosevelt.

-Purple Line Express trains will not operate between Howard and Downtown. Use Red Line trains as an alternate for rail service.

Alternate Service: Free Shuttle Buses will operate between Chicago and Washington/Wells, making all stops at LaSalle/Kinzie(for Merchandise Mart station) and at LaSalle/Lake(for Clark/Lake station) to make connections between rail lines.

This is due to the suspension of rail service on the Wells St. Bridge as part of CDOT's Wells St. Bridge Reconstruction Project.

I was coming from O'Hare Airport around 5:00 p.m. and saw what looked like a derailment in Rosemont yard. I saw units 3069-3070 as one pairs involved, but forgot what the other sets were. Then, I saw the back up of trains between Rosemont and Jefferson Park, but haven't heard any news on it. Anyone have any ideas on what cause it? It was in the western portion of the yard on the lead-in track to the yard..

I do periodically check for delays throughout the day on the "L"(when I'm at the computer). I didn't see one for the Blue Line around 5p. The only delays I saw were for the Brown and Purple Line due to the Wells St. Bridge being raised for about an hour or so(delay was from 2:45p to 4p), I noticed it with two minutes remaining on the delay, so I didn't log it. Was the bridge really up that long, I'm not sure. It seems like a long time to have it up, unless there was a large volume of watercraft passing through.

Reason for a derailment could've been anything... common reasons are warped/damaged rails, switches improperly aligned, damaged wheels on railcars. The highly unlikely reason is going to fast for the tracks themselves.

Service Interruption Severity: Major Delays in the area of Armitage. Service is being restored currently...

No details given as to the reason for the Delays/Disruption of service. I can only presume it has something to do with the area of track/switches that were previously damaged in the derailment five days ago. No reports of any new derailments or any mechanical issues of trains there.

Southbound CTA Red Line trains were delayed this morning after debris on the tracks caught fire, CTA officials said.

According to CTA spokesperson Lambrini Lukidis, the delay was about
18 minutes. Some debris on the tracks near Armitage Avenue caught fire,
leading to smoke and to the CTA shutting down power between Lincoln
Avenue and North / Clybourn Avenue.

The fire was put out, she said, and service has returned to normal.

That's most likely the cause.... service had Major Delays until 11a, about 1 hour. My guess is the debris is from some leftover splintered wood from the derailment five days ago.
