artthouwill Posted September 9, 2025 Report Posted September 9, 2025 At Jefferson Park, two CTA yellow jackets boarded the train and went into the operator cab. One of them drove the train. Car 7230 waa the lead. Every time the warning sound came on for the operator to slow down, it continued to sound until the operator brought the train to a complete stop. I got off at Rosemont but I would guess that upon reaching O'Hare, they probably took that train out of service. Quote

It can be a defect on that particular rail car or defective wayside signals outside. Anyway it goes, the operator was intercepted while being authorized to operate on the ATC Bypass. 2 1 Quote

At some point the 3200s will go back as a few already went back to the brown. 12 hours ago, Sam92 said: Orange line is gonna be the last to get the 7000s. Once Blue is equipped then they start hitting the brown line who in turn will send its 3200s to Midway to start scrapping the 2600s there. Then finally Orange gets them so were probably like 2-3 years away before we see any new cars on the Orange Again, I don't know how this devolved in the wrong topic, but since CTA doesn't knpw (as typified by the pullback of the 9000s proposal and the CT Board not yet having exercised the options for 7000s), you all certainly don't know. For that matter, nobody has seen anything higher than 7250, and that was 2 MONTHS AGO. 1 Quote

All I know about this is that when thr contract was issued, there was a dispute with MBTA over tariffs, and CTA said that if tariffs were increased, CRRC would have to absorb it. But later, CTA excused other CRRC delays, and gave them more money. Quote

Tcmetro Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Yes, shells are manufactured in China, but they still meet the Buy America requirements. Supposedly, manufacuring what they can in China is their competitive advantage over other carmakers. CRRC MA (building the Boston and LA subway cars) has had their shells held at port and have started to lay off their workers. https://www.masslive.com/business/2026/01/crrc-will-lay-off-workers-because-us-customs-still-blocking-car-shells-from-china.html Quote

Also, why hasn't more than 10 shells shown up at CRRC Chicago in the last several months? Quote
Adam Hubbard Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Is the rest of the base order and option for 400 more have been cancelled entirely? Quote

Maybe they have different sourcing? Mr. New Flyer seems to indicate that they had issues too, however. Quote
