And the next garage to get New Flyers is...

There's going to be another 103rd/North Park split.

Again?? Geez, this time you'd think 103rd get the New Flyer buses they need and NP wait patiently.

That's what I figured. Maybe this time, NP gets the even ones.

I hope they do too .

Now North Park can be "New Flyer Country". :D ..... or most of the fleet and garages for that matter.

Chicago already is (with the exception of some Flxibles).

Kedzie might actually have that title with 225 NFs (800-809, 900-909, 1122-1225, 1630-1730). I think Chicago has a few less. If I'm not mistaken their roster is 1000-1121, 1330-1430?

I thought 103rd would be next too. What throws me off is NP's getting more NF's? They only have between 40 or 50 TMC's. The need is much greater at 103rd. So if each gets 100 again NF 40 footers will be what would replace #5800's or would there be a #5800 transfer. So in total then up to #1960 is accounted for. It sounds to me now like the BRT's are headed to 77th first. Someone is going to end up with displaced #1000's 77th, 74th, FG or Archer, most likely 77th. There's not that many Novas for all of them and too many #6000's would retire after all deliveries are made. (100 or less left) Also I see a fleet reduction coming similar to what happened at Kedzie (120 TMC's swapped for 100 delivered NF's) It's possible 103rd might not need 100 NF's because the fleet is so new that there shouldn't be too much that's out of the lineup for maintenance.

Well we already know Chicago will see a fleet reduction with 3Track winding down later this year. It can retire its 5300s without replacements. Further fleet reductions would have to be at garages that are operating over capacity like Kedzie was and still is and a Chicago is a well. I'm not sure if other garages are over capacity outside Kedzie or Chicago. Before NP got its own NFs, it was reportedly over capacity. Is that still the case given 125, 143, 145 and 148 went to Kedzie? Maybe it would be garages that are providing supplemental services that are no longer needed later.

In terms of displaced 1000s, I take it you mean in terms of deliveries on DE60LFs for BRT correct? Kedzie for example may be left with 200 of its current 225 after DE60LF deliveries for the Halsted BRT. If there are some just from deliveries of the 1000s, it shouldn't be that many. If NP and 103rd do get 100 buses each again this time around, that leaves 69 left to deliver. 77th still has about 40-45 TMCs. So if those numbers hold through deliveries to NP and 103rd, that's between 25-30 1000s left to place elsewhere. I'm not sure about 77th getting displaced 1000s though because it's also getting DE60LFs to operate the 79th Street BRT. I'd say one of your other three choices Archer, FG and 74th is more likely.

There were quite a few NF's from 74th that were parked on Madison between MIchigan and Clark for the July 3rd fireworks. I got to see #1733, #1742, #1744, #1745, #1747, #1748, #1750, #1752, and #1755. #1745 and #1750 were working the #3 King Drive as extra service in the loop. The rest were parked on Madison. Sounds like next week we should see the first of the new batch to hit NP and 103rd.

This morning heading out to Rockford at about 10:40am on I-90 at Route 31, I spotted New Flyer #1756 inbound, no other buses sighted. Everyone have a safe July 4th!!! :)

Ok. Then they are a few less than Kedzie. The lower numbered NFs are up to 1121. Before the consolidation switch with Archer, Archer got buses 1114-1121 from Kedzie after all Hybrids were fully assigned to Kedzie. Those went to Chicago with the rest.

I saw 1741 at Roosevelt & Michigan. I guess CTA continues the tradition of 74th Drivers doing Roosevelt Extras during the 3rd of July.

74th's NFs again provided supplemental service to other garages' routes from the Taste last night. 1738 was parked at Roosevelt Green/Orange line station as a 3 King Drive, 1739 was parked just south of Roosevelt and State as a 29 State, and 1749 was operating westbound as a 12 Roosevelt.

I saw 1738 on Roosevelt last night from Roosevelt & California. Then i saw 1665 (one of the Kedzie buses behind it), then I saw 6067 behind that one. It was nice to see a 6000s again on Roosevelt!! I could tell those new 74th NFs weren't programmed like Kedzie's because those 74th Flyers displayed "12 to Museum Campus" while Kedzie had their destination as "Museums/Soldier Field". I remember in previous years 74th would do supplements for the 20 Madison as well. I'm not sure if they did that service those two nights.

So 1738 pulled double duty. Maybe I saw it after you saw it do that Roosevelt run. It was about 10:30 when I saw it waiting to start as a 3 last night. That '12 to Museum Campus' was actually displayed on Kedzie's former TMCs that final week Kedzie had them in service on its routes. So it looks like the 74th buses were using that new program from the TMCs.

Hmm! Just wondering if there's been an abrupt change of plans regarding assignment of the New Flyers. A couple days ago, rmadison announced another split between North Park and 103rd. I realize that he and Kevin are authoritative sources.

However, a short time ago, CTA5750 posted a sighting of 1317 (which had been based at 77th Street) at Central and Bryn Mawr with a mechanic at the wheel. Well, believe it or not, I just spotted 1320 in revenue service on Broadway (at Montrose) with the proper sign display.

Is it possible that 77th Street might be receiving the next group of new arrivals instead? I guess, with the CTA anything is possible, whether logical or equitable or not. (Only 30 New Flyers for 74th Street?)

I just saw New Flyer #1317 a few minutes ago EB on Bryn Mawr @ Central. It looked like a mechanic was driving.

#1317 and #1320 still do operate out of 77th. It could have been just a one day loaner.

I have to agree with Tim here. Besides, I've learned a long time ago not to bet against Kevin and Rmadison's accuracy, especially Rmadison. Thinking a bit on it, the Taste of Chicago and other huge events occurring downtown usually bring about a little mixing and loaning of buses here and there among the garages. CircleSeven and my sightings of the previous two nights are an indication of that. Plus I remember the last few big Bears home games brought about NP NABIs (not a part of the 20 for 20 swap between Kedzie and NP) operating on the 12 Roosevelt shuttle service from the Roosevelt el stations to Soldier Field and Kedzie NABIs operating on the 146 shuttle service from Congress/State to Soldier Field. Also 74th has operated the old 127 Auto Show shuttles and the current unnumbered Auto Show shuttle, which were configured after the 127 was reconfigured into 127 Madison/Roosevelt Circulator, for almost the past decade.

===Agreed. That's why I was particularly surprised by the 1320 sighting.

===The equipment loan explanation does make perfect sense. I guess that, in the wake of such strange decisions regarding bus assignments over the past two years, I've conditioned myself to "expect the unexpected".

The old 127 configuration for the Auto Show shuttles still happens today, even though the old and new 127 is let's say "dead and gone". The buses start at Ogilve, then Union Station, Jackson, Michigan then Balbo, Columbus, Outer Drive to the McCormick Ramp. I remember when I went to the auto show in 2004, it was not only 77th (which carried the old 127 NW/Madison) carried the shuttles, but I also seen buses from Chicago, Kedzie, 74th and even the Glen doing some shuttles. But not all garages operate didn't operate it every day when the Auto Show was going on at McCormick Place. For example, you could see Chicago & 77th buses one day, then the Glen and Archer on another day. Or maybe 3 or 4 garages operate it in one day.

Well here is one that will further confuse you. As I left for home tonight, I spotted 1730 operating on the 146 at Wacker and Wabash, with a NP run P4xx. I know for a fact, 1730 was orignally a Kedzie bus when delivered. Also I noticed 1224 headed northbound on the Kennedy this morning, "Not In Service" near Diversey Ave. I don't know what for sure is going on here, but it looks like the geniuses have once again found a way to waste fuel to constantly keep moving buses around. This is all and good, but I never want to hear Huberman whine on how they don't have money to do things.

I didn't mean that they don't happen anymore, I was making the point that the CTA hasn't officially used a route number for them since the 127 had been reconfigured as the Madison/Roosevelt Circulator routing under the Westside Corridor Study route modifications. The annual press releases and notices on the buses and trains now only refer to them as the Auto Show shuttle service.

I knew that these loans wouldn't sit well with you. 1730 still is a Kedzie bus as far as I know. Though CTA hasn't always done what makes sense, it wouldn't make much sense to move buses from Kedzie to NP when NP is set to get more of its own NFs from the next deliveries. I agree moving these buses around like this are a waste in fuel, but to be fair fuel will be an issue for them even without the transfers given how hard hit the airlines are as well as the auto industry with the decreases in overall sales for most of the major auto makers. We can just hope the increase in ridership will help weaken the punch from rising fuel oosts though I admit that's wishful thinking.

I believe it's 1330 - 1429 (Not sure, never seen 1430 on the Tracker, so just assuming :)) (By the way, hope everyone had an awesome July 4th!)

Really off topic, but for those who wanted me to take pics of some buses from Hong Kong, here they are...
